  1. Have you seen the new Taylor Swift video? I think it would be better if it was in the canteen rather than the library, following American chic flick where the canteen is practically a place of discrimination. Hmm. I see you didn’t get my point. Moving on…..

  2. The canteen. White walls, stuck up people. I sit here, by myself, everyday. Watching. Listening. They pass by. They don’t look twice. But I stare and I wonder, why am I here? With people that don’t know me. I want to dream. I want to live. I don’t like the canteen. I want to see more than white walls, I want to see green grass and blue skies, and look into kind eyes. I want to be free.

  3. Rushing to get there…. only have 30mins for lunch and there will be a few of us in the queue…hmmm you can smell the food all the way down the corridor.

  4. I don’t know this word … well this is strange, because this is something that happens to me quite a lot. I get a word or a sentence and I don’t know what it means, but action is required, so my quetsion is, do you just act on your own creativiy because there’s no time to look it up, or you look it up and learn about what others found out about it and don’t take action?

  5. freshness in a bottle, life giving at the end of a long desert walk, clean-canteen bottles are bad for the earth because humans don’t want to stop mass producing “things”, fill with anything from water to vodka, sip and enjoy. Learn to monitor your hydration levels.

  6. Water spilling out into a dry mouth on a mountain above a dry, arid place. There is none left. The mouth clamors and finds nothing. A black tongue sighs and expires.

  7. I went to the canteen to get a coke and all they had was pepsi. I wanted a coke so I went to town and all they had was pepsi, so I went home and drank some tea. It was better and saved me a lot of money.

  8. A canteen is a water carrier used by explorers and mountain climbers. It is also like a thermos that carries beverages, except that I think a thermos is used to retain the temperature of the beverage inside it. They can be used for soup and coffee and iced tea. When I think of the word “canteen,” I often think of the old-fashioned kind that Lewis and Clark would have used, that goes on a strap over your shoulder. I don’t really know much about canteens. They make me think of explorers, mountain climbers, and being trapped in the desert. I think of them as positive objects because if you were trapped somewhere, it would be very beneficial to have a canteen, as fresh water is critical to our survival.

  9. good times, bad times, good memories, bad memories… but in any case, lots of stories!

  12. in montana i felt alive. i remember wondering how jonathan felt that night. i thought it was so dreamy: sleeping outside the yellowstone river on hammocks attached to trees! i kept having this nagging thought, though, that he felt guilty sleeping so near to me.

  13. food, we eat from canteens, its also a bar in bristol, the city that i live. Its also a word that describs WW2 water canisters, which reminds me of Band of Brothers. Soup canteens are to provide food for the homeless.

  14. the canteen was empty. There wasn’t even an annoying drop in the bottom that you can never get, because he already got it. He was dying, he knew, and could only pray for a miracle. in this case, a miracle would appear in the form of a hippie who fell asleep at the wheel of his vw bus.

  15. I have never used a canteen in my life. Canteens remind me of camping-another activity I’ve never experienced. I’m thirsty now.

  16. The little vessel of life. the reserve in the desert. safe keeping and/or entrapment. left behind, survivalism. edification.

  17. I remember when I went camping as a little girl. My dad would bring a canteen on our camping trips and fill them up with water. He would make me drink from it when we would go on long hikes in the woods. I remember I didn’t like the metal taste the canteen had so I would not drink any water and I would be thristy.

  18. My school had a canteen. Throughout the years it changed locations and menus. It was almost a scandal when the meat pies and slush puppies were swapped for the much “healthier” energy drinks and stir-fried lunches. I miss the marshmallows the most.

  19. canteen. water bottle… usually used for camping… or when you’re trying to hide another drink… ah i really like camping. but ya know canteens never hold enough water.. those water bottles never leave you satisfied… and even when you do drink out of them doesn’t every single on have a funny scent to it… what’s up with that?

  20. Flowing into the space of many glasses, first filled, then half empty, then gone, the Canteen ebbs and flows with imbibing patrons.

  21. I was just the lady
I was just the one who helped
    I was just the lady
    I was just the girl

You were just the one, getting what you wanted
    And went on
    Never to notice me

  22. this is where you go to eat food. I don’t think it’s probably very nice food. You’ll just get things that are a bit dried up in hot plates. Maybe some grey curry and soggy rice. The veggie option will be vile. There’s be some wilted salad too. It’ll be quite light and very loud in there I would have thought. You’ll be encouraged to move along very quickly. Maybe there’ll be a very grumpy lady with a hairnet serving. If you’re really lucky they’ll have some kind of fancy wok and do stir-fries to order. Once you’ve finished you really should take your tray away – this is not a fun place to work and you don’t want to make more work for them.

  23. I’ve got a canteen. It’s black with a white and red chinese dragon painted on the side. It’s very nifty, but I prefer my Camelbak. I miss my Camelbak. I wonder who took it? I should have put my name on it. But honestly, who just picks up a Camelbak and says “This is mine now”? Especially with the bite thingy. That seems incredibly unhygenic, even after you put it through the washer. Like my spit is just all up in there and everything. That is not ok. It was sweet though, cuz it got me to drink like 3 liters of water a day. I felt like such a beast. I’d just set it in front of me and do my homework and drink and it was awesome. It’s such a lazy device though. You don’t even have to pick it up or anything. You just bite and suck. That sounds incredibly dirty. I feel like whoever came up with this really enjoyed felatio.

  24. dinner and yummy yummy food. i loved my school canteen. it was where all my friends hung o ut. for some people i guess the canteen was where everybody saw you fall, or get you pants pulled down, or dumped. but it also get stransformed into a beautiful ball every year where many people got their first dance, kiss or had their first best night of their life.

  26. It was not filled enough. Not at all. There was no way I could get through this journey with it half empty. Or so I thought. I checked again. It was more full than I thought it was. Relief…followed by confusion. I knew for a fact I had consumed half of it…it felt more empty by the time I had gotten to the hut in the village west of Kinjaro. I like to think it refilled itself by God’s graces.

  34. It took two steps to reach the bar from his seat. In a matter of moments he’d snagged the man’s canteen and wrapped the leather strap around the man’s neck. The beast of a man had let go the woman he’d accosted and was choking for air.

  38. Lost in the desert, no one around. Plane crashed. All I have with me is the clothes from my back and the water in my canteen. I am the only survivor. I don’t know how I will get out of this mess, but I do know I am determined to. The desert is hot, and dry. All I can see is sand; sand for miles around. How will I get out of this? How will I see my family again? I was finally coming home to my wife and kids. How will I get to them now?

  39. there are times when I deeple understand addiction. many years ago canoeing down the merican River I poured and enjoyed a wonderful bottle of Cabernet into my canteen. It was a glorious day and an even better secret. There are many days, all these years later when I wish to be able to fill a canteen with sweet red wine to make the day alittle easier.
