  1. It reminds me of miners and it also makes me think of charcoal. I don’t know, I like the old coal miner’s songs, but then I think, I’m supposed to hate that. In truth, I actually have no idea what coal is. A mineral, I think. But why are we still mining it? It must be valuable for something. But it seems to me that all we hear are how people are dying to get a hold of it, so, I mean. What the heck.

  2. Coal is fuel, and for many centuries was the life-blood of the unliving structure of our world. Coal burns black and thick and makes machines turn, brings metal to life with fire and forces our cities of brick and rubber to breathe along with our biological vessels.

  12. I never got coal for Christmas in my entire life. My parents always told me to be good or else I would get coal instead of presents. Of course, I’m sure it would be more trouble to buy coal, wrap it, put it in a box, and give it to your child than just giving them nothing. I doubt that I was the perfect child, but hey, I always got presents!

    How did this happen?

    And he remembered

    Dehlia Barber

    his stupid humanitarian girl-friend

She looked up to see him watching her with an
expression on her face that seemed to say
“You’re hating this aren’t you? I really do have you wrapped
    around my finger”

    he sighed

    she was right

    and continued to look
