Coal… I guess it’s the stuff in the back of Thomas the Tank engine’s friends “Annie and Clairabell”.. well, I suppose it’s coal, then again, maybe they carry passengers? I’m not too sure now!
I’d really like to know what use it serves… Can’t say I’ve really ever given it any thought.

A lump of coal – something found in the stockings of bad little boys and girls on Christmas day! Something you put as eyes on frozen snowmen on cold winter days … that look out on a cold, cruel world. Something dark.

Coal. Apparently China is sitting on as much coal as has ever been used in human history, and is opening up a new coal plant at the rate of one a week. I find this an incredible statistic, don’t you? I suppose they have a lot of people that need both power and employing so it makes a great deal of sense….

She stared at him through her half closed eyes, not daring to look away – knowing it would be to fast – over too quickly. His eyes never moved from hers. Black. Flat. Coal. Cold and lifeless. They gave away nothing. She might as well have been staring into the dark. She blinked
and it was over.

In a mine, deep inside the Earth, men risk their lives to put bread on their families’ tables. Coal is valuable in the small town, as it is the only energy source the locals have.

Coal is black like my heart. A heart so black and a wish gone bad. When I said I wanted him to suffer, I didn’t mean it that way! I didn’t want him to die! It was times like this that my coal heart got some color and that it stopped being completely black. But it’s too late now. My heart is dark, and loney as a forgotten piece of coal.

what’s with all the carbon? we had diamond a couple of days ago!
Same as diamond, almost, but atomically slightly different and thus vastly different… coal is black, powdery, comes in lumps, and is formed from the remains of trees under high pressure. Burning coal is often used for power, but much less now as it releases large amoutns of CO2 which are not good for global warming.

Coal. Black as coal. Mind is red and scary and black – black as coal. The curtains are falling – broken. Black as coal and angry as red exclamations.

Dark and burnt. The lines on his face were all white, where sweat and friction had drug away at the residue of the day’s work. He picked me up and hugged me close; I didn’t mind the filth. I was used to it. Besides, he was my father.

coal. black as black. compressed earth matter, like thoughts you once had, now forgotten and turned into something precious for someone else to find. the fire grew dim as the night grew light, and we just kept shovelling more coal. brick after brick, one by one, just enough to keep a little bit of a flame. just enough to keep an idea alive, a thought burning, like a little piece of hope. what was once dead will live again, be precious once more.
