  22. you fingered down the
    angle of your collar,
    tugging gently on the hem
    of your shirt,
    and I watched, sorry,
    I watched,
    your finger, your collar,
    and thought about your nail
    tracing where my shoulder and
    neck slope together,
    sparking a dull friction,
    sparking a dull pulse,
    but faster, sorry,
faster. as I drew words for
    the thought of your fingerprints,
draw out your name in a hairline
fracture, tug gently on the hem.

  24. I purchased a collar with studs on it for my small dog, a pug. He immediately took to it and I thought to accredit some trait to him–in my lasting perception of him, as a dog. His behaviours, though, didn’t change–he persisted in chasing bottle caps and tearing the innards out of his stuffed animals as that he might play with their husks. I decided not to purchase comparable products in the future.

Like an abused dog pleading on the street, being picked up and carried on the winds of hope and change back to the home of the new master.
