  2. A crew of crow, a whole murder,
    flew sideways through the sky,
leaving wide lonely gaps of blue
untouched by their dark punctuation. Our crew
    trudged on in mudboots
that would never keep mud from our feet
suctioned to the muck the sluggish pull of gravity and silt
to us, a crows circling feels like resentment against the sky.

    Liz Peterson

  4. The ship was empty. The crew was gone. A storm was a comin’. And I was alone. Dangerously and frighteningly alone.

What should I do? I was only a passenger. I didn’t know anything about a ship, nonetheless how to steer it. A that moment, a deadly wave crashed into the side of the boat, disrupting my thoughts and balance as I flew threw the air and landed with a smack on the wooden deck. In front of me was the large wheel that controlled the ship.

I used it to pull myself up off of the floor, ignoring the ripples of pain that flew up my side, and grabbed onto the smooth wooden wheel. This was a life or death situation. If I didn’t at least try to save myself, then all hope really was lost.
So on the ship and I went, into the dark, treacherous seas beyond.

  5. Crew is a word for a group of people who work upon a pirate ship. I have a crew of my own, however they are not pirates. They are my friends. I don’t normally call them my crew, though. Guess, I am not ghetto enough,

  6. Me and my crew strolled down the sidewalk, deftly avoiding the cracks that tripped most people unfamiliar with the area. We owned the streets, and we knew it. No one made eye contact as we passed. No one dared. We were dangerous, and it showed. Everyone stayed out of our way. Just like we liked it.

  7. Sometimes I think I have somebody in my life who I can come to when I’m feeling lonely. Sometimes I feel like it’s a lot of people. Maybe it is, who knows. All I really know is that I have an insaitable desire for friendship and being surrounded. Maybe it’s attention, maybe something deeper.

  8. I can’t do this, I remember thinking. I am not a stage manager. I do not wrangle people. I can only write down props list and carry so many things and bark out commands for quiet and give actors lines. I cannot build a set. I cannot design a set. I cannot give cues. I can’t.

And suddenly, on opening night…. I could.

  9. The crew ran across the deck, raising the sails and tugging at the ropes, trying to stop the storm from getting the ship off track. The captain shouted”Argghhhh, me maties! Hoist the sails! Raise the flag! We can’t let this darned ship sway from our route!”

  10. Aha. She knew it! She was certain that she’d caught glimpses of them before and she now understood why she never felt alone…always being watched! What an interesting….if not odd..crew of elflike beings. So novel….and odd…but yet so familier…

She watched as they scurried about….hiding her phone (What were they doing that for?)…moving her paperwork so that she’d be late tomorrow morning…having to stop to look for it…emptying the remains of the coffee grounds into the garbage! (Sacrilege!!!)

She felt betrayed….yet at the same time she felt loved. Did she have a hand in this? Had she had a conversation with these little people before she came into this life? Were they just helping her along…or conspiring against her…it was unclear…

Was there a such thing as fate? She no longer knew what that word meant…

The ship lurched further sideways and the crew knew this meant another group of people trapped. The darkness of night made the whole job so much harder. Chris was so nervous she thought she would wet her pants. Adrenaline and fear mixing in her gut like excitement gone awry.

The mood expressed by the clothing extended to their social skills – moody, a little aloof, talking loudly at times about esoteric stuff that was way over my head – I was glad to go home and leave them to it.
