  1. Dancing. People dance through life, it’s a silly thing. You can waltz one day, tango the other. Dancing is a lot like the different velocities of life. There’s always a new rhythm.

    And she loved it.

  7. Dance and the world dances with you. Sit and you sit alone. The Hasidic Jews dance with the Torah; dance as worship. Polish people dance polkas at weddings; dance as lovers. “Stomp” dances with the utilitarian; dance as work. Gene Kelly danced though he wanted to be a choreographer; dance as a means to an end. Ella Fitzgerald was supposed to dance at her amateur debut at the Appolo theatre, but stagefright paralyzed her till a woman said, “Sing!”; dance if you can.

  8. I do not dance in a conventional sense.. I thrash about, enjoying myself thoroughly. Not when people are in the room, though, that would be embarrassing. I went dancing one time… it was restrained. And dull. :P

  11. hell yes. I did this last night it was hella therapeutic. I don’t understand just what it is about moving your body rapidly to sound rhythms that is so satisfying and makes you forget anything and everything that is worrying you; that you are able to just move and be physical and let all your emotion pour out until you are tired and you are renewed and reborn and refreshed.

  12. You can dance in a plethora of ways. Plethora. I like that word. I don’t remember when I learned it, but since then I’ve tried to use it as much as possible. Anyway, any passion you practice can be considered “dancing”. I might dance by playing the guitar, or by reading Wikipedia on random topics (I’m such a dork). You might do you dance by riding your bike or running. We all dance differently.

    Zach Stanley
  13. A dancer fell down ten flights of stairs.
So I figured she would probably care.
    I asked if she’s alright.
She looked bad in my sight.
Though when she replied she only swears.

  15. I just saw a cat video on one of the many sites I cruise. It was a cat singing and going I dance, dance, dance. It was funny for a while then it got a little to repetative. I love to dance, I learned all the old ones from my parents who went out dancing every weekend. I can fox trot, radio hop, waltz, and jitterbug. I also made quite a good living in the 60’s with white go go boots and net stockings. Now-a-days I am told that I can’t dance by my daughter who is very much more coordinated than myself. But I still feel the music. I would have loved to tango but that was not a part of my culture. I can do a german polka, which is very similar to a mexican (mariachi) dance, and also Zydeco, also based on a polka. I like to slow dance when there are more than 2 steps involved, I like feeling close and following a good dancer. They are hard to find because of my generation of dancing separately for the most part. Grinding is for bed, slow dancing is an art. Ballroom dancing is so elegant. I don’t watch that show “so you think you can dance” but only because I just never have turned it on. It would be nice if music with melody and real lyrics came back into vogue. Then maybe young people would actually have to dance. Oh yes, I could “vogue” too when Madonna made it popular. Anyway, now I sit and watch, and get some pleasure that way. Good bodies and good music will always make my soul dance.

  20. you can dance if you want to… and better to be brave enough to be the one out on the dance floor that others are watching and wishing they could be as brave. Dancing makes you happy, makes you feel free, makes you smile. It can be an expression of desires that you may be to shy to exhibit without music or dim lights.

  22. i dance when i’m alone. when no one can laugh at my flaing limbs and stupid faces. i jump on my bed and turn up the music, i run through the house screaming the lyrics, somtimes the car goes off the road a bit but i keep dancing. then either i or my family returns home and i sit quietly reading a book with soft music playing in the background pretending to be the child they want.

    nightshine
  28. it wasn’t the hard images of half bodies of babies covered in dust and lifted into the air by horrified parents that made me want to dance. It was the air, the night, the randomness of walking down to find people watching that in the street.
But you can’t dance to such things. You really can’t even talk happily to your friends

I always start with blood on my ballet shoes. Dance is like blood for me. I need it to succeed, but it isn’t my life.

  32. I danced a dance of joy when I saw the dancing bears around the fire pit. I danced all day and I danced all night. Sometimes I stare at the moon and wonder what I danced and if it were all right. I feel the dance within my soul, I feel the strain upon the bowl. I see the music, I hear the sights.

  33. i started to dance in the falling labels in the air trying to collect them all as the floated and danced away from my hand, the labels reminded me of you and the times we spent together and if I could only collect them all and put them back together I could do the same with us.

  34. An entire genre of music is dedicated to this. Five letters – two vowels and three consonants- form this surprisingly aesthetically pleasing word. I suppose it is all the curves in the letters that attract me most.

  37. Once upon a time always starts some princess story, where some desolate chick and some prince dance, and then get married and live happily ever after. In real life, there’s never really a prince or happily ever after. Only that nice tax agent you meet on the subway, who you get married to for a while in a run down house with a couple of kids and a bunch of bills. There’s your once upon a time.
