  1. I woke up earlier than I had expected. Its strange that I don’t feel sleepy anymore so I stood up, stretched, and sat at the floor. I looked up and saw our picture on the side of my bed. There we are, side by side, smiling, as if nothing really matters but our friendship. A tear fell down my cheek. Its been a month now, but I still can’t believe you’re gone, The one who makes me smile, the sunshine of my life. I was a fool for thinking that you were joking when you said you’re going to move out. Seriously. Go to the city and leave me? You wouldn’t do that to me. We’re friends for as long as I can remember. We walked the same path, drank from the same juice boxes, wore the same clothes, we were inseparable. No, you can’t just leave me.
    But you did.
And you didn’t just move away.
    You were completely gone.
A truck slammed into the car you were in.
Killing all the unfortunate souls inside it.
When I heard the news, I was devastated.
I cried hard that day. I was overwhelmed with grief.
I thought you’re just gonna move out, but no.
You left me, alone in this world.
What am I supposed to do now?

The dawn was breaking, and it brought a feeling of nostalgia.
I remember you, Dawn, running to my house in the fall.
“Happy Birthday Autumn!” you greeted me happily.
The freckles on your cheeks, your blonde hair and your smile that revealed the braces you’re wearing.
    I miss them.
But all I have now is a photograph.
My life was drastically changed just like the seasons.
You were here in the Spring, bringing joy to my life
Summer we’re still together having fun, what more could I ask for?
But soon autumn came and suddenly you were gone
Now my heart is frozen like the winter never to change until I see Dawn

  2. I am always confused what does dawn mean. Either it is early morning or early evening. Then I go and think that if it is dusk to dawn or dawn to dusk. After doing this I realize that it is dawn to dusk hence a new morning a new beginning and take it positively.

  8. The morning light creeps in over the silken folds of the blanket and graces my toes with its touch – warm. I gaze out at the balcony where beating hearts and breaths used to mix. My hand sweeps over the space next to me where the light has not yet touched – cold.

  9. The morning light creeps in over the silken folds of the blanket and graces my toes with its touch – warm. I gaze out onto the balcony where arms and lips used to lock. My hand sweeps over the space next to me – cold.

My life got flipped, turned upside down

In west Philadelphia born and raised
On the playground where I spent most of my days
Chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool
And all shooting some b-ball outside of the school
When a couple of guys who were up to no good
Started making trouble in my neighborhood
I got in one little fight and my mom got scared
And said you’re moving with your auntie and uncle in Bel Air

  19. In the morning I wake up to the beautiful sunrise dawn, an even beautiful sight one that welcomes my poor eyes as I feel satisfaction waking up to experience this beautiful sunrise. Dawn a moment that is just a moment so rare yet a consistent part of every day. Not many see this beautiful sunrise but dawn is something worth seeing! Dawn is something so simple and beautiful it would be a shame to miss out on the experience of greeting dawn. It’s beautiful isn’t it.

  20. It was dawn. Young, weak, almost helpless… The sun gets a burst of shaky strength and presses out of the ground like a sapling. Breath in the new.

    Laura J.
  21. She rolled over and yawned. “Gosh, I’m tired” she thought absently. She slowly sat up, stretching each part of her body as she went. It was still dark so she decided to snooze a little longer. Suddenly her mind all at once woke up. “The curtains!” She almost screamed. As her body suddenly had enough strength to leap up and yank them open. “No!” She cried as she saw her worst fears come true. It was dawn, past dawn, completely and utterly way past morning light. “No!” She shouted again. “It can’t be.” She thought as she slowly sank down onto her bed.

  22. It was dawn again, another day and all that has past has been erased. Right? I wish it were like that. At dawn it’s supposed to be a clean slate, but I can’t take back what I said to her. I don’t think I ever will.

  27. Two dawns in a dimly lit room. I was wrapped up, but this time prepared for the retreat. My unshakable sense of anguish. Shame! Your shame is an insidious thing and I swear I mean it when I say I wish it weren’t clawing at your back.

  28. I watch from my place on the porch, as the sun rises, every inch of me covered with a blanket. I soak in the vivid sight of life till the slowly moving light inches up my face and blinds me with its brilliance.

“You’re up early.”, a groggy voice states from behind me before I feel his arms engulf me.

I laugh a little, lighting up with the distant horizon, “You are too.”
