  1. i am listening to a band and i can think about summer and maps and holding hands and making bad choices and leading people on and thinking about girls and lying in bed and the temper trap is where my joy divides and i am thinking about blue eyes and green eyes and all the ways my heart divides

  5. There was a truck caught in traffic. It was so vast, cars for miles around were stopped in their places because it couldn’t move. The largest traffic jam in the world, they said. So many people had to take detours around this massive, monstrous truck just so they could get to work… an hour late. That was how long it took to get around this horrid contraption. Who would make such a terrible thing?

  6. Turn left, No?
    turn right
    a detour is ahead

    it’s scary

    and when it works out
    for the better
    it’s amazing

    I don’t really know.
But whether I want to or not, I have to turn right instead today.

    lost on a twisting road
    but somewhere in the between
    on the road
    long winding lost
    in places
    it’s a reason to know
    something else
or maybe an excuse to follow
    it somewhere else
back to where you came from
    again, tangential,
    to the place you started.

    Peter McConnell

  13. take a detour in my head.
    shiver. scream. YARP.
    reality fades into blacked wood.
standing in the sunshine, dim blue veins.

the trees are dying, and never healing.

  18. One time I went to Dallas and there were a lot of detours and a bunch of traffic. I wanted something to eat, but my dad said to wait until we get out of the city because it was so busy and he didn’t know how long it would take to get food. He was cranky because we were going to be home late, but that was okay with me because I like car rides.

Run? Stay? Hide? You cant decide. What to do? What to do?

  22. why oh why do i have to take this detour? i dont wanna go around my original route; there is a reason it is my default, it is the best. detours are ridiculous because they never actually help and jsut get you lost. next time i encounter a detour i am going to just drive right thru my original route.

  30. “Let’s take a little detour.”
    “Sure!”

There was no reason not to. After all, we didn’t have any specific destinations in mind, no deadlines to meet, no annoying relatives to stay with. This was the first road trip in my life where we had just hopped in the car with some basic provisions and some cash, and hit the road. The freedom of it was intoxicating. I wished it could all last forever.

  34. valvoline mamas,
    casual wear,
    fighting the best
    of the beasties
    in the walls
    of Nepal,
    sighting the jiggly
    set, infiltrating
    those at the Six:
    you wondered
    before the wonder
    started, stranded
    in the separation
    between fools
    & gnomes: take
    you best shot,
    overindulge
    the chocolate nudge
    eastward:
    two flowers twined
    & in their twining
    twinned the aspen
    spaces, all
    the tender buttons
    of their lateral
    charms.

  38. The way around it. The way I could take. The way that would bring me nothing but trouble, but it would take away the pain. It would cost me time, but give me life. Should I take this path before me? Should I make the decision that I can never change? Should I go this route that I may never return?

    Hannah Rose
  39. she took the first detour she saw…. no care about where it would lead… she’d thought too much anyway. she kept her stride, walked without a stop, the tears just kept flowing, but she walked with no care… soon, she found herself at the brink…right over the edge of a cliff… a beautiful sunset, a gorgeous scenery lay before her…. the detour was luck… but hope wasn’t lost…

  40. There was one thing I learned on the train ride from Limerick to Boston: Never underestimate fairies. “Watch your step and keep clear of the dust,” the conductor said, as we gathered on the platform. They’d messed with the tracks again, unable to resist the idea of rerouting us to New York or New Gargantua or maybe even Atlantis, if they were feeling particularly malicious.
