dial the number. that’s all i’d have to do. he told me the other night that all i would have to do is say the word and we’d go down to the courthouse and he’d make me his wife. sometimes i wonder if maybe we should just do it… my mother would be upset, of course, but it’s my life, isn’t it? i just want to be his, his girl, for the rest of his life. (i can’t picture a future without him in it.)

He dialed the number on the small strip of paper and swallowed. This was the moment of truth. Will the call be picked up, left to a message, or even rejected? He crossed his fingers and prayed to God above. Please let her answer and say yes to a date.
There was a click. “Hello?” He grinned even though there was no one to see.
“Uh, hi.” Here goes nothing.

I dialed up my cousin last night to ask him what he’d do if he was in my situation.
He told me, “How the heck should I know? He’s your brother!”
I hung up the phone and ran away crying.

I dialed his number, I couldn’t help it. I just needed to hear his voice. It had been too long, far too long. I could hardly remember the last time I’d heard from him.

dial what? the phone? oh! perfect. Let’s chat. Dial your number. No answer? Fuck. Dial again. There we go. You’re kind of boring. Later.

I was wondering if I should call him. I know that we broke up months ago, but, honestly, I can’t get over him. On the other hand, I can’t bring myself to dial his number. I can’t tell him that I miss him, that I wish he would take me back and forget his silly notion that he doesn’t love me anymore.

The time on the clock was measured the second hand sweeping across the face of the watch. The tension grew as each second crept by. It seemed like an eternity.

don’t touch

all you ever were
was a masked crusader
with the looks of an angel
and the light, too.
who says I could have given you up?
or that I even could now?
you were a wonder in disguise
maybe a little too attached to it.
you left me here,
standing here,
waiting here,
unaltered from the touch
from the sound
any other feeling –
unlike any other.

I guess I dial your number, just so I can vent. You’re like a diary, but I love you so much more than that. You’re the only person who gets me. You’re the only person who doesn’t judge me, and who always has something loving to say. I love you, you are the greatest sister in the world.

When there is an emergency, you can dial 911. In the U.S. this number covers not only the police’s phone number, but also for firefighters and any kind of emergency. Another thing I think of about this word is that it is a soap brand. The smell is very sweet, but it leaves your skin dry.

Standing in the phone booth, I put in all the change I have left, and I dial the one number I wish I could erase from my memory. After a few moments of ringing, I was about to hang up. I felt dejected, alone. As the phone was almost to its destination, my heart skipped a beat when I heard his voice. “Hello? Marlo, is that you?”

Dial bar soap – it’s what we had growing up. I hate bar soap. My soap of choice right now is the Dove super moisturizing something whatever. I passed over the store brand (big deal for me!) to buy that the other day, and it is just great. (one minute is very long)

Dial? Like dial soap or like dialing a phone? It’s funny, I think they knew more than they let on when they were naming Dial soap… Soap to leave you clean and unfettered. Sometimes, Dial soap cleans you of the dirt that caked on your body, and sometimes, dialing the right number at the right time can clean you of the dirt that caked on your soul. Right?
Grayson
this is what happens when you push numbers on a phone. it allows you to get ahold of another person by doing it. It is an action that people use all the time.
