My great aunt Velma had a really large doll collection. While there were lots of really nice, expensive dolls in it, she also had a few weird, scary ones mixed in. The collection bordered on hoarding, with no room left in the living room for guests. The couch was covered, and there was nowhere to sit.
Marcy
I used to have a lot of barbie dolls growing up. I had three sisters and my mom had always loved barbies. We didn’t have a lot of kens though mostly barbies. We were girly girls
Bess
creepy staring girly. they have weird faces and are pretty much useless. they’re inanimate and no funn. i think of barbies and american girl dolls. i never liked them and i used to play with fake guns when i was little, not dolls.
Dana
scary dolls staring at you with big vacant eyes…..wondering how they can suck the soul out of you so they can be born again.

The headless trophies
of last loves.
Sweet, and in place,
a book shelf to remember them.
My youth on the lake.
And her hair. Braided,
flowing down the edge of her back.
She’s wet in the lake.
I’m sitting on the dock,
Braiding her imagined hair.

I remember growing up my grandmother used to buy my sister & I these dolls that were like the collectable barbies but for the 70’s era.. She used to put them on the shelves in our rooms so we could see them everyday.. We couldnt touch or play with them at all but they still bring fond memories.

dolls are incredibly scary at times. especially the porcelain ones that seem like they stare at you always. a lot of my friend had these. they always hated them. i wanted one at one point, until i found how freaking creepy they were. the ones with the frilly dresses are just… blegh.
Leika
Girls play with dolls, many types a\of dolls are present in different parts of world. Chinese, Janpanese, Indian all refering to their culture.

When I was young I used to play with my dolls, I would plan out their day, their outfits, their hair, what would happen. Everything would go as planned. Then I grew up and realized it didn’t work like that, I couldn’t control events, I couldn’t control others’ actions and I had to work to control my own. Life wasn’t a dollhouse, it was a madhouse and the only thing you can rely on is the unexpected.

i dont understand alot of things in life but other things, some so strange , some even mad i do understand i just wish things would be more clear and the strange pressure i feel in my chest would go away and maybe i could feel that love i long for and see those who i have lost
oh how i wish for the most impossible things, i make mistake i learn, i repent, i sin, i live, and i will die, i am a human, and i want to be free, the little things in life are me
chris
Dolls can sometimes be creepy, the porcelean dolls with the eyes broken. paper dolls are nice, although i don’t know what the term means in world of warcraft. what are considered dolls? barbies? not action figures. Those are totally different
fernando
dolls can actually be kind of creepy, i mean we studied them once for art history class and they were all disfigured and looked like something you would find after a nuclear holocaust, or something along those lines… i mean these dolls were just horrific to look at, and yet we had to study at least 13 of them for our final exam.

I have porcelain dolls in my room when I was little. They used to scare the shit out of me because their glassy eyes would stare at me all night. I was never a huge Barbie fan, I usually played with my brothers action figures and monster trucks just so I could fit in and not get made fun of. When I did play with Barbie dolls I would usually cut their hair off or something.
Lia S
i once had a doll named emily but when i grew up something happened to her my mother gave her away it was saddening. Now i spend my days looking in vintage stores for another one just like her. One day i have high hopes that she will appear
danikah
eyes glassy orbs in plastic misshapen skulls. once perfect ringlets crushed under the weight of the dumpster garbage, fingers without fingernails

dolls are pretty it’s what girls love to play with, guys I don’t really think so. dolls can also be scary, somehow they’ve become the figure of horror movies. it happens like that sometimes. when beautiful items become the subject of terror. humans are weird like that. they can be as destructive as they can be beautifully creative. why? i dont know. but anyway, dolls.. yes i was talking about dolls. dolls are interesting like that i guess.
Jenny Choi
I still have many of my dolls from childhood. They’re in a box, ancient and falling apart. Heads are separated from bodies, eyes have fallen back into the shell as the rubber bands have dried and lost their pull. Little Women. Amish boy and girl. Creole woman with a basket on her head. Souvenirs of family vacations.
Andie
Dolls, are creepy to most. Girls love them, boys detest them. Barbie. Chuckie. mainstream idea to girls of how they should look is shown through barbie. Horrors of dolls shown through chuckie
justin lee
dolls dolls dolls dolls dolls. they’re everywhere. so many pretty, perfectly made up, chic little dolls. people tell me i’m one too, but i can’t see it when i look in the mirror. I can’t see it.
shannon
Dolls are jsut, well dolls. IDK, the first thing that comes to my mind is actionfigures, but that’s just because I’m a nerd like that. i never actually collected any action figures as a kid. i never really could afford it. i like heroes, though. superheroes make things a lot better for me.
Walter
I never really liked dolls when I was a girl. I played with barbies occasionally, but I was more interested in beanie babies. Even now I don’t see the appeal of playing with a tiny object. A game like house is much more effective in creating an imaginary world.
Susan Latiolait

dolls
plastered
made up to look like something
that they really aren’t.
flushed rouged cheeks
hair curled to perfection
skin soft and smooth like
the petal of a flower
but their eyes say something else
they say there’s no life
to just being made up
to being pretend
to being a doll

Boys don’t play with dolls when young. They wait until they get older and do their best to control adults.
scott
They are simple and relaxed.
Clothes come with a few accessories.
Car not included though Ken might be.
They are all a little girls dream.
justin
They are fake, usually girls, and come with long eyelashes and long hair. Dolls are made with plastic or porcelean and are collectables for some people. Most people that collect dolls never take them out of the boxes. They also come with frilly dresses and shoes, along with a stand.
Taylor
we replicate humanity for what purpose?
imitations are vast and sad.
nothing reaches the human potential.

dolls, an unrealistic standard.
Tyler
poppet. simple. young. free. little kid in you. you see the perfect face, perfect fragility. held in one hand. a play thing. all yours to cherish or throw away. like your child, but you can forget and leave it at any moment. detachable. you dont have to take responsibility over it. delicate and simple. and all yours.
michelle
dolls. the dollhouse. it was a good show, with interesting ideas at least, despite the poor execution. reminds me of ghost in the shell too, where the director held up dolls alongside dogs as two things/entities that we project ourselves onto, yet have very different kinds of life from us. Dolls are imitation life.

coin operated boy

Porcelain dolls really creep me out. I think it all goes back to when my grandparents used to buy them for me as a child. They had a wall full of them right in front of my bed at their house and it gave me nightmares all the time.

I had no dolls growing up but my sisters did. They were these awful bald plastic dolls whose heads would squish in, and had these light blue almost gray sweat suits. Their eyes were closed and couldn’t open, so I assumed as a kid that they were eternally asleep, or dead. Both of my sister’s had the same doll so their names were written on the back of the doll, under their jail-resembled jump suit. I played with them when they laid in the family room but didn’t do much other than that.
Matthew
Dolls are probably some of the oldest toys. Think about it, throughout time hasn’t like, every little girl (or boy in some cases) had a little doll? Hasn’t everyone recreated sex with their little girl and boy dolls?
liz
Ha. Dolls is the word of the day. I have been doing a Poetry review for about 3 hours now and read everyone of Wilbur’s poems… Dolls isn’t mentioned once. The closest thing that comes to it is Juggle. Thanks for the inspiration….
Cassie
I HATE DOLLS. For one specific reason. Action figures. Action figures have taken the “doll” wrap for far to long. Can you cuddle an action figure, i think not.
TERRIN BEIERLE
She said the soldiers took them. A little girl, standing in the doorway, the door wide open, the wood on the door breaking away in the decay that was already taking over the country, and them, them in their shiny new boots and brown uniforms, with their outreached hands, grabbing for her doll. The only doll she cared for, for the fear that sugar, or other food was indie her head.
