  4. When an essay is due, there is always the same process. First a languid disconcern for the approaching dead line, then a sudden panic, a 50 meter dash to the library. 6. I am due to service my life in some way soon. I am due to find the man that I am to love for all eternity. I am due to create a long lasting relationship with my family that any hallmark commercial could capture. I am due to complete my dreams and love my life. I am due to be myself as well though. I am due for mistakes along the way that will leave scratches. I am due for those scratches and bumps along the way to make me into the person I’m supposed to be. I design these due dates though and I control what each goal means. I design the conditions and I control my perception.

  7. These kinds of things don’t usually happen to a person like me–dowdy, unassuming, and perpetually down on my luck. I spend most of my friday nights doing homework in an empty house two sizes too big for me. I keep to nose out of other people’s business in hope that they will never be tempted to stick their nose into mine. My life is, by definition, pure boringness.
But of course, that was all before I made the mistake of boarding that plane. The trip where all of me was lured out with the promise of the Baltic Sea, but only part of me came back. I still blame it on her. On Ruth.
After all, if there’s one thing she managed to teach me, it’s that it’s always polite to give credit where credit is due.

  8. My test was due the morning of April the third. It was a tremendous, superficial thing that really did not mean anything. It could have been more interesting, but it was all my dull, cold brain could purge out.

  9. America is due for a revamp on gun laws. Those poor innocent children were not due to die until a freak show decided they were. It is cruel and unnecessary. Change gun laws and make it so that no one with any form of instability has access to a gun. Here in NZ we have much tighter gun laws and there are no mass murders; no massacres; no stealing of lives. Those poor children did not die in vain. The due date for gun laws has arrived. Obama, it’s your turn to deal.

  38. “Every bill comes due.”

Words of wisdom from a religion teacher, herself so volatile that we would never be able to tell if our brand of adolescent crass would drive her up the wall enough to swear at us or give us the bird. Asking her about her thoughts and opinions on sixteen year olds dry humping on a dance floor was enough to get her to go bonkers.
