  12. Dusk is the time of day when the mind can be clearest. It’s a time to hear yourself think. Sit on the patio, smoke a cigar, listen to some music, and let the brain coast.

    Steve O
  13. The smell of dusty, musky living things pervades my senses until all I can think about is living, growing, proliferation. Trees in the dusk are haunting, and their personalities come out in the limited light. It is the time between night and day.

  14. The dusk settles over the valley quietly and quickly. The sun is setting behind the mountains and can no longer be seen, although its light still illuminates the sky. I am still sitting in the clearing, as I have been all day. I need to keep moving, but I don’t want to return to civilization just yet. I am peaceful and content in the midst of the trees and I am happy to forget the noise of the cars and the bustle of people.

  26. Dusk falls far faster than we ever anticipate. I can’t begin to imagine how many people have been lost, injured or otherwise maimed simply because it got dark, much faster than they expected.

It’s happened to me for sure.

  28. Dawn and dusk. Sunrise and sunset. Polar opposites of one another, one might say. One marks a new beginning, the creation of a new day, while the other marks an end, the conclusion of a day that just passed. But the sun will always rise again.

  31. Dusk is my favorite time of the day. It is neither light nor dark. Dusk is beautiful– it changes the entire world. Blurs features, and makes even things close to you unclear. Then you can imagine something new, something better. Something you actually like. What you don’t understand you can make mean anything.

    Annie
  32. dusk, today.
“the lake is beautiful”, you said,
    and say no more,
    I followed you.
    you continued your quirky banter,
    “if you
    or I
    were a guy”
but you leaned on me anyway
and even if it meant no more
    it meant enough

    Donna Bills
  34. at dusk, we see all the stars disappear.

the guardians of the sky, the sweet twinkle of the dew drops in the morning sun.

You are the dawn of dawn, the beginning of life.

this is it, when I love to wake up beside you and we can watch the sunrise together. this is it, when we can be together; it’s better in the morning than the night/

and slowly, we see the golden globe above the horizon, the silver orb dipping below.

    Samie
  35. night time is a wonderful time…but is it better than the day? a wonderful compromise is the DUSK. the twilight. the point of between-ness that allows us to cross the boundary between sun and moon. it is a time of excitement…reflection on the day and excitement for what the night may bring.

  36. Dusk was beginning to fall when Ame stepped out of the doorway. She crossed the yard silently to the old shed and opened the door. Looking around for a small string on the floor, she spotted it and tugged at the cord.
A door in the boards of the floor opened, and Ame stared down into the darkness below, wondering if she dared to enter the most deadliest memories of her past.

    Anna H.
  37. We’re taking the crown now.

Or, at least, the trees are. They’re taking the crown, tucking it away. They’re black sillhouettes, monsters, waiting with thorny claws and outstretched arms.

I stand on the edge, watching them sway in the wind. Dancing, almost, like ballerinas. I like the way they look.

    A.T.
  38. There was no better time to be, and no better place, either. Here and now on the ocean’s shore was pure euphoria. Dusk was the time when the sky seemed to meld into the ocean’s horizon and all around you was the seemingly endless abyss of darkness, waiting with its silence.

    Virginia
  39. At dusk I shall crawl inside a seashell and remove all my clothing and then curl up into a tiny fetus and age backwards until I am simply a speck. A fleshy bit of dust inside a sea creature’s shell. Goodbye.

    Steven Frenda
