  1. The eternal sound of hammers hitting nails pounded in my ears. I clasped them, twisting my face in agony as I looked up at the ceiling. Then it stopped, and I breathed a sigh of relief. How foolish of me because it started all over again, so I ran into the den searching for the screwdriver, thinking that perhaps I can shove it in and get the sounds out.

  4. The so-called “human” condition is not so human, but certainly eternal. The stresses and strains, the challenges, the competition, the letdowns, the danger … these are all a part of living, unfortunately. Though we may intellectualize them and consider them symptoms of our “modern” society, what we are really living with is the eternal experience faced by all living things: Competition for resources. As long as there are resources (forever, then) and as long as there are lives vying for their piece of those resources (a long long time) there will be strife, misery, heartbreak, destruction, and death.

  7. is this burning an eternal flame? funny that the first thing to come to mind is a song lyric… what does that say about society as whole? pop culture has permeated everything so much it is actually a bit sickening. how many of us can remember who said what on tv, etc… but can’t remember anything from history class?? strange but true.

  13. The eternal is infinite. How can a finite mind encompass the infinite idea? With such limitations, however, the mind can understand such ideas as infinity though….there are equations and properties and proofs of such amounts to the point of complete understanding. So how can we not understand the eternal completely?

  25. Does this word “eternal” speak more of the length of a person’s life or its quality? Eternal life for instance, can mean living forever, or it can refer to the type of life someone lives. A plant lives plant life, a dog lives a dog’s life – what kind of life does God live? One way to define God’s internal life-movings is to call it Eternal. A being without beginning and end, has life and that life moves it.
