  1. Fireflies are shooting stars, sparkling across a moonlit poppy field, glimmering golden in the light. Each glowing, floating ember contains a dream of whispering winds, butterflies on the wing, and wanderlust across the star-splashed sky.

    AmandaO
  2. They light up the sky while flustering about, being caught and enraged–a level above synapsy with nerves of molten steel. The window glares with their eyes and not their bodies with the light of a thousand wishes.

    Kyle Peters
  3. I once got into an argument with a little girl met on the playstrcture in Disneyland about these little bugs. I asked “Hey! Do you wanna catch some fireflies?” She then responded
    “You mean lightning bugs?”

  4. i like to catch fireflies on friday nights with my best friend. it’ss the only time we can talk about how we feel without people judging us or telling us we can’t be together.

  5. fireflies is a song by owl city and it’s pretty good, but it’s a bit too electronic for my taste. although ciana loves it, but she gets kind of annoying with it.
anyways, other than being a top music hit, fireflies always used to scare me, sure they are the least scary perhaps of all bugs but they still did.

  6. I need a jar. Just a small one, preferably round, and seal-able. The fireflies come tonight, and I would like to be able to see again.

  8. Fireflies are stereotypical. They’re suposed to be these symbols of eternal happiness, and summer, and sunshine. They’re not. As soon as you catch one, it dies two hours later. How is that happy?

    Rebecca Marie
  9. I love fireflies. Whats the difference between fireflies and lightning bugs? Why are the FIREflies, why not LIGHTflies. That makes more sense.

  10. I love fireflies. Me and my boyfriend’s song is fireflies by Owl City. I remember when I was really little and they were flying everywhere and I always wanted to go out and catch them, and sometimes I did, but I always felt kinda stupid and always so cliche. the one thing I hope to achieve in life is to NEVER be cliche. I love fireflies, they’re like dragon flies with spunk. I love them so much.

  11. Fireflies, there are stories I know about fireflies. Real stories about lights that lead the way, and fiction stories of people inspired and comforted by their light. But I also know their heartbreaking stories. Of course, you can reverse it all as well. Still, chemicals are beauty.

  12. I woke up as a firefly.
I was kind of upset at the Kafka-esque cliche, but happy about my new found freedom, and the chance to start my life over.

  16. One day, as I walked along the lakeside, I witnessed hundreds, if not thousands of millions of fireflies erupt into the sky and dance for hours. All of a sudden, one came closer, and closer, and closer.

It was no firefly! A beam of silvery blue light shout out of the now gigantic light and beamed me up.

Then I was dissected and never lived to tell the tale.

  17. Fireflies. Makes me think of the song by Owl City, which is a pretty song, and actually the only song by them I really like. It’s cute, and sad at the same time. Fireflies make me think of summer, of the warm weather, of the darkness lit up by that small flash of light. Everybody loves the return of fireflies in the summer, do they not?

  18. Fireflies is a song. it makes me think of this wonderful boy mason. he introduced me to a fireflies remix. mason is perhaps, the nicest most geniune man i’ve ever met. and i’m certain that i should be with him.

although we’ve never been together when i’ve seen fireflies, if we did see some, i’d know it was for a reason. <3

  22. fireflies lit up the night. they made everyone so happy and cheerfuly. We all used to try and catch them and put them in jars and see them light up the night. Some people would smoosh them against the wall and see the wall light up a little bit. Fireflies make everything ok.

  23. I love the summer nights as the fireflies begin to appear. It reminds me of my childhood as I would catch the fireflies and put them into a jar, or grossly detach their “fire” and wear it as jewelry. I long for the days of summer so that I can once again watch the fireflies and remember back to simpler times.

  24. I couldn’t remember the last time that I had seen so many fireflies. They were beautiful swarming above Jake and my heads in the dark night. They were faint on their own, but in their groups, they shone so bright and wonderful. They were the light in the dark of night, just like Jake was my light.
