  1. ten thousand fireflies, i’m weird cause i hate goodbyes. i don’t like that song. but i like owl city. it reminds me of last summer, listening to him and hanging out. rainbow veins was our song. it reminds me of sitting in our fort and you singing the saltwater room and having that remind me how much i love you.

  2. I once used to catch fireflys. I loved catching them and letting them go. Once the fireflys were out it was the official beginning of summer. Such a free time. No jobs. No homework. Just childhood and the late dusk. With my parents watching over my brother and I, we would jump in the air to catch them. We would want to keep them in a bottle but then I felt bad.

  10. There is a song about fireflies. I personally remember hitting them with baseball bats when I was younger just to see an explosion of light for a short period of time. It’s sad that I was killing something so beautiful, but the memories of joy I experienced is something I do not regret.

  13. There are fireflies all over the place. It’s too dark to see much else, but I can see the fireflies. I remember trying to catch them as a little kid. I never really liked keeping them in jars. I just wanted to catch them in my hands and then let them go.

    Andria Laney
  14. I hate that song. So over played. And i believe that’s unfair because it’s so random and it just so happened to be a hit. It also saddens me to see such beautiful work become so hard and over used. That was some true artistry. I do care about today’s music, even though most of it honestly makes me either wanna puke or cry.

    Rina Sires

  18. The subject of one of the most annoying songs of all time. Takes away from the sheer beauty. A flicker of light caught within a tiny body. That is what life is about. That flicker of light when everything else is asleep and dark. x

  19. It was a magical night and little Sally wanted it to last forever. She watched her father, the Mage, engage a family friend in a lively discussion on the relative usefulness of newts’ eyes while she sprawled out on the sweeping lawn. Fireflies twinkled above her little blonde head and her brother joked they were coming to honor his little witch-princess.

  24. A really crappy lame song that has been overplayed on the radio. It basically is one of those songs that has destroyed what music truly is. It’s not entertaining and completely unoriginal. FUCK THAT SONG. Although, catching fireflies as a kid was pretty fucking awesome.

    Matt Frankwitt
  25. Fireflies remind me of that Owl City song. That’s all that I really think about now when I hear that word. I think there were a lot of stories with fireflies in them when I was a kid. I always wanted to catch a fireflie and keep it in a jar like they do on TV and in books sometimes. But we never lived somewhere that had fireflies, so I never got to.

  26. At first, i thought the pen failed me. “So much for your mightiness” i said as I flung it down.

Then I saw it cry. I saw how helpless it was.

“All I’ve ever wanted” it said, “was to show the world what a firefly was”

    And I let him.
