  2. The four guys didn’t need a table to play cards. They used the top of a wooden crate. The night shift was usually slow, but this particular night was flat out DEAD. They played BS, Poker, Black Jack, and Rummy until the sun came up.

  3. The tire was indisputably flat. One glance told me that.

It couldn’t have happened at a more inconvenient time.

To begin with, this was one of the maybe two days a year that I wore a suit, and changing the tire was going to mess it up royally.

  4. The Earth is flat…..

  5. A rooftop in Kentucky. A young man looks down as he debates plunging off the flat rooftop of which he has spent his last 21 years under. An owl swoops down and lands beside him. They make eye contact. The owl creeps closer, and flys away quickly. The man changes his mind and goes inside.

  6. Flat, flat like a brick. A brick in a wall. A mediocre wall at that. All bricks are pretty much alike. Bleak thoughts. Bleak thoughts for moving into your first home. With your first wife.

  7. He gazed out across the plain. Grass tickled high at his bare knees and he watched gophers disappear into their homes as he walked through the flat plain. It stretched for miles, so far he could see the distant glimmer of city lights in the night.

  8. The plane was flat and long and endless, stretching out before me in waves of rippling grass that looked like they would never end. The sky was long and flat and endless, too, as it stretched above me.

  9. The land was flat below us as we rounded the curve of the mountain road. Cresting a small rise, there was the valley strewn out in front of our car. This is where we would begin our new life. This place was where all our dreams would come true. As long as we could forget the old ones, that is. They were gone.

  10. These feelings have risen, they’ve grown and swollen up. The urge to expel them is most pressing. Seeing your face however, kills any feelings. The suddenly shrink and my heart feels flat. There is no feeling at all. You’ve killed hope and murdered forgiveness. Abusing mercy and pity, I have none left to give. All the mercy has run out. You’re flat out of luck.

  11. The road stretched out before us, with mountains barely visible through the hazy air. It was hot, and the sun burned the top of my head. Even with twenty four gears on this bicycle, I was glad the road was flat.

The air was hot and dry, and i was stiking with sweat by the time i got to the house. but harry was there, waiting for me at the door with a glass of lemonade and a flower that he picked from the garden. 16. Flat, flat flat. She stared down at her chest in anxious frustration. As per any girl her age, her breasts should be coming in now, blooming into bouncy, jiggly wonderfulness, but instead she had mosquito bites. Itty bitty mosquito bites. She turned sideways to the mirror and sucked in her stomach hoping that would help, but no such luck.

  17. Flat.

Like a pancake. Like my beating heart. Like the way Mark Cutter looked when Darcy Jones told him that she wouldn’t go out with a loser like him.

    Perfectly flat.

Two-dimensional. Like a cracker, salted and unsalted. Two slices of bread, like the sandwich that Karen gave Miles for lunch last weekend.

    Really, really, flat.

Steam-rolled all nice. Like my cake. Like Jenny Marco’s chest as those rude boys just had to point it out because she refused AnnaMarie’s initiation offer.

    Flat.

What I really am, when I stand here and see everything and say absolutely…nothing.

  18. My chest is flat. At 20 years old, I have the breasts of a 13 year-old, pre-pubescent girl who still wears training bras. While yes, it is moderately mortifiying when trying on certain styles of tops and dresses, it also comes in handy when I don’t feel like wearing a bra. Plus, I have no idea what my DD friends are talking about when they complain about going up and down stairs, because the only bounce I have is the bounce in my step!

  19. My chest is flat. Everyone else has already grown reasonably sized breasts, while I, already 20 years old, still look like a 14 year old pre-pubescent kid who could be wearing training bras. Embarassing? A bit, but it comes in handy when I dont feel like wearing a bra. Plus they don’t bounce around as much as my friend’s when I go up and down stairs. One of her breasts is like six of mine. Honestly. That would be a pain sometimes I think, but also SO MUCH FUN TO PLAY WITH. And much more attractive to most men, I would imagine.

  20. Her face, much like a sheet of paper, was flat. There was no dimension. People looked at her with as much excitement as looking at a sheet of paper. She knew she would never have any good friends, because of her flat face. Hahaha

A distant shot echoed, and then darkness.

  35. Why is your voice so void of passion?
My ears catch the echo of it and bleed

This is not how you speak to your future,
with words void of hope or anger or sorrow.

Give Your Almighty Future something to work with-
scorching passion or a blizzard of hearts.

Identify every anxious thought and I will replace it with a peace.
Abandon your depression in my courts and you will leave with love.
Give me your confusion and I will give you my purpose.

Do not allow yourself to become lukewarm,
I will not be able to use any part of you.

  36. i’m feeling a bit like a day-old soda pop today
like that stretch of road lined with dry grass
like two baubles of flesh in a sports bra
but mostly like my singing in the car after a long day

Bishop ran in front of me, his tail disappearing around a corner before I caught sight of him again as I rounded the curve, pushing up another hill.
My heart pounded, sweat dripped down my back, my breath came in gasps.
This is what I loved about the nature trail, what I lived for.

    A challenge I gladly accepted.
