a time for the fallen leaves
and the pumpkin patches
and yet, it’s a time of death too
there are these places i wish to visit
as the colors change
the seasons transition
and i transition too
the sunshine fades and the happiness
doesn’t harvest as often.
but i still grin.

The harvest was not good this past year, he explained to his family. The rains started when the rice was just dry enough to cut. But when they cut it and laid it out on the ground, it started to decay. They couldn’t put it in the stack, but put it out on the road, hoping it would still dry.
