It wasn’t until past 5 when the sun began to peek over the tops of the mountains. The wind picked up, and there I stood, in the lane.

  19. She’s taken every path, run off down every road and now she’s wandering aimlessly through country lanes. She wishes she was on horseback. It’s the ideal location for that, or maybe she’s just romanticising, again, as usual.

  21. it wound before, her, almost teasingly. she worried at her lower lip absentmindedly, progressively occupied with where it might lead. it was paved with curiously shining gold bricks, though it had surely been trod a thousand times over. straightening out her prim, cotton dress, she clicked her tongue to her pup, and took her first step.

For the lane was not a street. The lane is his life. And all of us walk down lanes of our lives towards oblivion and destruction.
