  23. gold and purple, it had its own special spot atop a table in her room. what did it mean? i could never guess. it was dusty; i guess she never wiped it off. or touched it even. as i brushed my fingers across the lantern, they left a few paths indented in the dust. was i the first one to touch this in so long? then what did it mean to her?

  24. my dad always brought an old-fashioned lantern when we went camping, which seemed weird because we always made a campfire and also had flashlights. The lantern gave me the creeps when I was little because I thought it might start our tent on fire. Its light was really harsh, too, so I tried to stay close to the fire, which would fight off the lantern with its more powerful but still more gentle flickering light.

  30. lanterns are bright, used for camping. project either really bright or dull light depending on the quality of the lantern. they are quite a nifty invention, i want one for my room. like a cute one ya know. oooh, i want one that looks like a bird house. :)i will hang it from the ceiling and it will look really cool dontcha think? yaaaaaa. ok

  37. a light that helps me see in the dark when i feel helpless and scared maybe i should look up out of my closed eyes that i open and see that the lantern still shines bright in the night when i close my eyes once again the light will somehow seem to just disappear and i am scared once again, i keep opening my eyes to check that the lantern is still there to protect me from any dark being in the night the absence of light makes me scared.

    She loved the shiny glow of the lantern upon glassy darkness, but she knew that not even this brilliant shimmering would show her the way to what was truly beneath.
