  1. Bouncing off the walls, the boisterous noise reverberated throughout the small glass room. The tension was unbearable, but we stayed, the four of us, together nonetheless. We avoided all eye contact, preferring to keep those windows closed, though my partner made an effort to make smalltalk with the couple across the wide desk.

  2. If thee is one thing people can say,
To point out my uniqueness in one simple way,
Is to tell everyone to hear my laugh,
To look out for the one that seems to be breathing too fast,
In and out like the alarm on a car,
Or the insanity of a hyena,
Described as many, but you have to be there and listen,
    To a sound so unique.

  9. Hey new friend your laughter fills my heart with warmth and sunlight. I hope we can hang out again soon so I can hear you laugh once more. :)

  10. I can still hear your laughter when I walk down the stairs. It’s cold – it always was down there, especially when you weren’t at my side – and the stairs creak a little louder than they used to. The water heater makes that funny rumbling sound, and the dryer shakes and can barely hear myself think – but when I close my eyes, all I see are your teeth spread out in front of me, all I hear is your laugh.

  11. laughter. what a beautiful sound. it doesn’t matter how it comes out. it could be soft or loud. it could be smooth or squeaky. it could be deep or light. it could be obnoxious or inaudible. it doesn’t matter. laughter is beautiful. such a wonderful expression of happiness and joy created by God. that could lift your spirit and take you from the deepest places. laughter. so easy to do. yet it has so much power. how wonderful our God is to have created laughter for us.

  12. Laughter. He craved laughter. Her laughter, to be precise. Because if he could make her happy, then he was good for something, wasn’t he? Because he loved her so much, but she was so, so, so different. He was the shadows. He was the embodiment of a minor death god. She was… She was fire. Pain and pleasure. The hearth. Home. She was that which guarded the family and she that guarded all precious treasures and metals, and woe betide those who dare steal from her. She was fire, swift and burning, and sinuous and lovely and he didn’t know how he deserved her. He didn’t know why she stayed with him. He couldn’t figure it out, so he treasured every moment with her, made her laugh as often as he could, because she was fire. And all fires burnt out and he wanted to put that off for as long as possible. It hurt to know that she could leave at any moment, just disappear. (… two minutes. Whoops.)

  13. Laughter, I’m told, is the best medicine. Sometimes I disagree but when something is really funny and my heart is very broken that’s when I know it’s true. Laughter can cure even the most broken of hearts- sometimes.

  14. Laughter bubbled forth as if from a spring, spilling from her mouth uncontrollably. Her whole body shook with it, her lungs gasping and groveling for oxygen but never letting up from their task. She felt weak with it, entirely consumed and unable to resist it, and giving in to it felt so good. All the tension and the anxiety she had held so tightly inside her slipped away with the hysterics, leaving only a feeling of overwhelming relief. It felt so very good to laugh so long and hard and deep, to laugh in such a genuine way, from the heart. To laugh from the soul. It made her feel good again, well and happy and alive again. Whoever said that bit about it being medicine might not have been far off the mark.

  15. there were creases in the corners of her eyes – reminders that at one time, before me, there was laughter in her life, curving in the corner of her thick lips and touching her eyes, which no longer sparkle or gleam when they pass over me, but grow steely and cold.

  16. Laughter filled every inch of my body. I felt it tingling and pulsing throughout me and trying to creep out of my skin. Escaping through my mouth and leaving me breathless as I sucked in more oxygen only to laugh it away once more. Nothing really matters when you’re that happy.

  17. That’s how you know you’re in love, he thought to himself, watching her. It’s not all prickly feelings and butterflies in the stomach: it’s when her tears hurt you like iron barbs and her laughter is like the sound of heaven in your heart. It’s when her smile is the sunlight and her frown is the abyss. It’s when you want to give her everything you’ve got and everything you haven’t–it’s when she is your world.

  18. She laughed, bright and full of life. Everything in the room brightened around her as her shoulders heaved and she rocked back and forth on the chair. He felt an answering smile creep up his lips against his will. No! This was not the time for laughter he thought furiously to himself.

“Robert Browning. The poet. I haven’t read much.”
