I was in college, no time to get lost in the library but I was still and always have been story-hungry so I read stories in pictures coming out in chapters. It started with watching Rurouni Kenshin with my roommate in the Philippines waiting 30 minutes between scenes for the internet to load. And then I found out there was a book so of course, I had to read that. But I wished people could have judged them by the stories and not the medium. Because there is trash in every genre but I will seek a good story in any way I can find and understand it even if I can only read subtitles. Natsume’s Book of Friends was a special comfort to me, the story of being trapped between two worlds, especially one only you can see. It spoke a lot to me as a lonely missionary kid but I knew everyone else only laughed at my “silly Japanese cartoons”.
