  1. muting something so beautiful as a song, as a word, as a single syllable, is like the nuclear reactor in a distant soviet place. nothing is more beautiful than the aftermath graffiti, or the destruction left behind from such a war. baby dolls and old plush toys… Peace now flourishes, with trees and untouched medication bottles.

  2. The phone was mute. I knew it, my wife knew it, but we couldn’t do anything. I took a deep inhale, thinking, then decided to push the 0 button once more–waiting for an answer. Perhaps the operator would reply. There was still no sound. Now Sally looked over at me nervous, biting her lip, curling a strand of hair around her finger; it never failed when she had the gut feeling of something bad about to happen.

  6. I saw a short film once about a mute boy and his deaf girlfriend. They were only kids.
It was inspirational, in an odd sort of watch-kids-beat-each-other-up kind of way. I like seeing love in unusual places.

  7. I feel so mute. I mute myself because I’m afraid of saying something stupid, afraid of what people will think about me. So I don’t speak up. I live life on mute. And I’m really starting to get sick of it. I don’t want to live this way anymore. I feel so lonely.

  8. it is of no sound. when you mute you take away something that is not necessarily wanted. mute is no sound. mute rhymes with flute, jute, and cute. The later will land you tail. Do not let someone mute you without validity.

  10. mute is a handy feature but is rather dark if you think about it,totally turning off sound…can you imagieworld withou sound? it would be terrifying..never knowing your surroundings because your main sense in a three sixty degree radius is missing…nothing would be the same..the world would be much dark erh

  14. Mute is a button on my remote control that I do not much enjoy, but yet still use often. I mean, who doesn’t want to hear there TV, but at the same time, who doesn’t want it to just shut the hell up?! It’s like a marshal labor dispute in the wilderness. It wont work if both parties aren’t on the same page. If I had the kind of frequent flier miles that come in a box of frosted mute switches then we would both see the darker side of heaven. One day, one day you and I will find each other, and you will say to her, “HER, find my wallet!” To which she will reply, “I can’t damn well hear you!” Finally he will take no more …. and hit .. the .. mute

  15. Even when the words tear holes in your eyes, even when they screech and rattle the bars to their cages, they will not be heard. Your vocal cords cut, your communication forever disrupted, a silent, agonized blip in the system.

  17. No speaking, nothing. Quiet, complete silence. But expressive, there’s beauty in silence. Words don’t need to be spoken, or heard. You can see and really that’s where the true beauty of the world lies. It’s everywhere.

  18. Time passes and the unspoken answer floats somewhere in the slight breeze caused by the ceiling fans. I look up and count the rotations as I try to ingore the deafening silence coming from beside me. If silence is a language, it is a language of finality.

  19. Mute- luckily I like to write. Without it I could never communicate. Not because I don’t try, but because people are so uncomfortable dealing with REAL people that they have become incapable of reading their body language.

  22. The sound of silence. If silence even has a sound. For someone to be mute, have they lost expression? A man of words can only find that words are the easiest way to express oneself; and to have that taken away, is there truly any meaning left? But yet, no sound produced; what is one left to do? It seems that being mute…is a curse while at the same time a blessing to be appreciated.

  23. Mute. We just read a short story in class about an artist who had a stroke and was paralyzed/mute. Interesting because he was supposed to represent the literary canon. Huh. I’m not mute, but I’m def not part of the canon either. Probs should get back to work/class.

  31. my whole life I have always wanted to be loud, crazy, out going and open, but mute is the moment when I am without thought or sense. Mute is the memory of something dreadful and drastic, a moment when a decision is incomprehensible and a concept is too far gone. I wish so badly to be loud, but then I am mute when I am gone.
