  1. I was not what everyone thought I was. This history had grown up around me, and before I knew it they all thought I was this hideous monster. But I wasn’t.

Back when it all started, I was just a woman- just a woman searching for the love of the man she wanted. He was there with me, and I loved him, but he never noticed. He ran after other girls. He came back to me each night and would rely on me and always say “Thank God, Lil- I’ve no idea what I’d do without you.” And I would smile and walk up the stairs to my room and hear him settle in his room one floor below, and I would cry into my pillow.

One day it was too much. I left, and I travelled, and I sometimes heard about him. He followed me, you see. I was travelling, and he was following. I don’t know why. He said it was because he realized he needed me, but I think he was afraid that I would find someone else and never come back to him. I think he was afraid of being alone.

  3. We learned Greek mythology last year. All these gods and goddesses and indirect incest. And direct incest. There was a lot of cannibalism, too, and being in love with inanimate objects (like finely figured statues). They were into the romance thing, Romans. I guess we are, too. It’s timeless, love. Maybe that’s why it’s always included in “myths.”
