  2. The pageant was in full swing when the mayor was shot. Sudden silence reigned in the square. Dancers stumbled to a halt, staring as the mayor reached up to her forehead and brought away a bloody hand. She staggered back, reached out a hand to brace herself, and tumbled to the ground. A long moment passed as the silence stretched and stretched and…broke.

  3. Everyone is beautiful.

  4. He waited. He hated these sort of things, but it was absolutely necessary to get what he wanted. A strand of silvery hair passed down in front of Mark’s face, and he reached up and brushed it aside, trying not to be disturbed by the color. Oh, Golden. Lifting his eyes to the stage, he could pick her out, her golden skin dazzling even from dark brown hair and green eyes. That girl could win any pageant she entered in, and she loved it. Honestly, he was just there for the victory and the prize.

  5. The pageant began and my girl stood front and center in her beautiful gown. She sang her heart out, delighting the crowd. Bound to be the winner, I knew she had it won.

  6. its all a pageant. all of it. morning, noon, night and morning again. we’re all the anoerexic models in it and we’re not even getting paid. just gawked at, undressed and redressed as what the camera wants. why cant we get off the cat walk?

  7. beauty to compete with. not to marvel at. dresses to shine. not to be sentimental.

  8. The pageant is something that isn’t really seen as anything but an over glorified contest that subjects women to the status quo opinions of a panel of judges. It’s sad really. But, I guess it could have good effects. What about he girls that can’t enter?? What happens to them?

  10. Pageant – A competition (very american), which promotes superficiality, and is an insult to beauty and honesty.

  14. The beauty pageant had the girls arranged in such a way that it reminded Charlie of a confectionary; the rainbows of their dresses and thick scent of their hairspray which wafted through the air and successfully submerged everybody in a slightly dazed and drugged, but happy, complexion- the various scents of “rain” and “vanilla” mixing in with the gentle, shimmering facial powder that seemed to settle over the girls like a soft snowfall, or ash, falling from the sky.

  15. beauty. competition. strive for perfection. tiaras. glamour. shoes. dresses. all the things a girl could dream of. to win. all the beautiful things that well never be good enough unless you come in first place. no matter how hard you try.

  16. This makes me think of that horrible show….. Toddlers in Tiaras……… ew. My brother watches that show when ever he can…. He is 12… That screams issues. Poor like spray tanned girls. They are better trained then my dogs at least.

  17. Pageants are the bane of my exisistance. My mother put me in my first one when I was 6 months old. She said I loved it. I loved running around naked too, what did I know at 6 months? Now I’m kind of stuck. How do I tell her I’m not her? That I would much rather be in a rock band, one of those heavy metal head banging ones. On the drums. Man I love the drums. Acustic guitar has its place, but any song that makes people get up and move has drums in it. How can you go wrong? At one pageant when I was 10, I wanted to play them for my talent. My mother made me tap dance to Tip toe through the tulips. Need I say more? This is my life. And I want to change it.

  18. The dress was ugly, there was no doubt. She shuddered at the thought of the cheap fabric draping utterly wrongly on her sculpted frame. But she would have to wear it; and proudly, at that. To do otherwise was to show weakness. And that was unacceptable.

  19. A terrible thing that turns women into monsters. Sometimes men, sometimes children. Everyone is afflicted by this disease of unnatural beauty.
    Burn them all.

  20. pageant is one of the stupidest things I’ve ever had to witness. Why do we do them? why do we encourage them? what is the ideology behind making a show of beautiful people and creating even more rigid structures to what the word “beauty” actually means? I hope I live to see the day they go extinct. soon come.

  21. pageant I miss my girlfriend. this reminds me of females so I guess thats what made me think of it. Everything kind of reminds me of her lately. My ex girlfriend thats is. I don’t have a girlfriend. I don’t want one, bcause noone will ever love me like she did.

  22. A pageant is a terrible thing. It turns beautiful women into monsters. Destroying their natural selves with cosmetics and surgery in the hopes of being the “prettiest”.

  23. Little girls who have no desires of their own. Glitz and glam and sparkles they are not welcome. Girls and even boys who are forced to live out the dreams of their overweight, self-loathing mothers. They deserve better. We are all human. Maybe it is their choice but I believe in a childhood, in a young life that gets to play and frolic and sing. They are joyous. They should not be fake or have a mask of makeup; let them live.

  24. I was always treated as though I’d one day be in a pageant. Ha! Another expectation not met.

  25. beauty pageant in not applicable to all ages. it ruins self-esteem of a child. Beauty pageant can promote anorexia and the starvation of teens. It lowers the confidence of the audience. In the other hand, it helps the contestants body posture and so much more.

  26. My sister was in a pageant once. My mom’s been in many. I’ve gotten to see my sister’s for the first time two years ago. It was also her first one. It looked so fun and everything. And it was great because my brother that I never see was there. AND for the first time, she won first place!

  27. There’s a break in the wall
    a smidge of empty space
    The air leaking out/in
bring it back to the draft
through the chambers of your heart

  28. little girls with fake teeth tans and moms living through them. However I definitely wouldn’t mind being crowned miss universe! It’s all about beauty on the outside and as much as girls say they wouldn’t want that they would absolutely not mind having the body of those girls or the hair and face. They are beautiful!

  29. Beauty pageants claim to be “scholarship pageants” but still give scholarship money to women who degrade themselves by pageanting on stage. They probably spend more money on their hair/makeup/outfits than they will ever earn in scholarships.

    Brooke
  30. Her beauty was worth more than words can describe with her seductive emerald eyes, flaming locks of auburn hair, ivory skin, and a smile that takes your breath away. To every man, she was a woman they would never see around his arm, but around someone’s more worthy.

  31. i wish i was pretty enough to be a pageant girl
as fake and shallow as those types of competitions are.

i want to make money for getting to play dress-up.
i want someone to look at me and say, ‘wow.’
    i want to be pretty.
    i want to be enough.

  32. On tumblr I see all these gif’s of little girls in pageant shows on television, and I want to cry every time. They’re being prematurely turned into exactly what society doesn’t need. Shallow, materialistic, fake women who think they can get whatever they want just for being pretty.

    Andrea
  33. The pageant of pages – a flurry of ages – ended in cages.

  34. Pageant

Of all the Pageant associations in my head, my mind just went to Lynda Carter.

I was a big Wonder Woman fan when I was younger. I was a big Superhero fan. Batman, Superman, Spiderman, and of course, since I’m a girl, I was a huge fan of Wonder Woman. Lynda Carter could do no wrong when I was ten. I wanted to fight crime and be Wonder Woman’s sidekick. I wanted to be Batman, Spiderman, and Superman’s sidekicks too…. wait, no. Superman pissed me off once. I wanted to be Wonder Woman’s sidekick ;)

  35. The only type of pageant I am familiar with are beauty pageants, and even that I am not completely familiar with. I’ve seen them on television, and in movies, but I’m not certain I really understand them. I think they’re silly. And they put a strange expectation on participants.

  36. The bright colors of the ruined festival pageant looked garish and out of place amongst the rubble. The brightly colored scarves the players wore stood out mockingly against the black of charred wood and grey white ash. None of their cloth had burned, only wood and flesh.

    Jessica
  37. a pageant is a shiny competition between lovely girls, judged by older men who look for only the beauty on their faces and bodies, not the smartness of their minds or their views. All that matters is the pretty cellophane transparent empty look on their pretty faces

    Justine
  38. stupid fake little girls running around with no real talent. moms get too involved and take it too seriously. no real motivation behind why these people do it. helps with confidance but proposes it in a negative way.

    nicole
  39. Sarah is going to be a beauty queen one day. I’m not sure how I feel about that. This word is also very purple. Or is it pink? Either way, I think it’s interesting that it’s decidedly girly, and the word is decidedly girly. or am I just interpreting it that way? That’s a good question. I wonder if I keep doing this – if they will all be purple or if this one word will be purple. It almost looks like giant if you look at the end of the word, and you changed an e into an i.

  40. The pageant of all the women in the world is an overwhelming concept. who is the most beautiful, intelligent, customizably perfect? one can never tell. yet women act as though this were a real possibility- to win.
