  1. a novel, simply presented to the reader. it doesn’t contain the pretentiousness of a hardcover, but offers the same allure to enter a new world, with an even greater anticipation of great things

  2. Paperback books are my favourite types of books. They may not feel as heavy in your hands (a rather enjoyable feeling – it makes you feel smart and powerful) but you can carry it around everywhere without straining your shoulder or back and enjoy getting lost in a bit of another world whilst you’re going to school or work or a job interview! I also love the aged book smell of paperbacks..

  3. I’ve already written one paperback, one tiny novella about love lost love won love gained love lost again and love disasters. it’s worthless though, holding bookmarks and money, a hiding place. can i hide between those pages? maybe i’ll fall in love with what i’ve written once again.

  6. Paperbacks. Books. They disengrate with time, just like a body. That’s what hardbacks are for.
But that would be like immortality, and that’s just not what we are. We fade. We die. We dissolve.

  8. i sat with my paperback in my hand, focusing on the words on the page. not reading. not paying attention to the text. i just wanted to look busy. so as the person sitting next to me wouldn’t try to speak to me. because looking busy is more important than communicating with others.

  9. i like the feeling of a paperback book in my hand. it is so pliable, movable. The words sit like clay in my brown fingers.

  10. i like paperbacks better than hardcover books because they are lighter and take up less space. also, people who only buy hardcover books are capitalist bastards. i also don’t care about autographs in books. i want to talk to the author, not see how they write their name.

  16. there is something comforting in a a paperback, it gives you freedom to just read what is there. no intellectual, just fun entertainments and it doesn’t break you are off carrying it around., Its great for that too, take it anywhere, and read where you are.

The paperback, without it, I wouldn’t be writing.

  17. I love the smell of an old paperback. I especially love a certain generation of Penguins, they have aged so well… the smell I mean. I can’t tell you how many paperbacks I have enjoyed reading over my life, but I can assure you that I have enjoyed smelling every last one of them. Except that old ratty 1984… just a bad print.

  18. Paperback books are great. They’re cheaper than hard backs, you don’t have to worry about keeping them in as good a nick and they fit in places better because of their smaller size.

The only downside is sometimes you have to wait a long time for a book to come out as a paperback. And I guess they aren’t as hardy either.

  21. novel, if I could read your mind, bent paperbacks in charity shops for 20p, fits in my handbag. The beatles, – does that song have any other words, I can’t remember any. Hardbacks are too big, paperbacks rock.Mass market or trade, no need to keep the spine pristine.

  22. Paperback books are a lost art. Now a days everyone reads these hard heavy and flashy books. A work paperback book is a comfortable feeling.

  23. The paperback was wrinkled from being dropped in the bathtub. It was old, it was yellowed. She loved it anyway. She liked to just run her finger down its creased spine.

  24. PAPER BACK WRITER!
I always hum that song when I get stuck putting books on the shelves in Wal-ly World. I even get caught doing a little hip dance. But hey chicks dig it. I occasionally get numbers as I recommend the latest Fabio covered book. “Hey there, want me to be your Fabio?” You’d be surprised how many chicks dig it.

  25. paperback book swap- check it out- it is a good deal where you swap books. you pay postage when you send a book and the person sending you books pays for your books. great deal

  26. What can I use to make this become a book? Words are only words, but making a document that is worth its while is not that easy. I use it in many ways to communicate short episodes of life and more. Can I remember where I had put it? In my pocket. I’m just a writer. And I write on what I know. Sometimes the words are not enough, but the effort.

  27. paperback book. paperback wriiiiter. the binding so smooth, so much easier to bend as you read, turn the pages. fold the cover. the creases show that it has been read, it has lived a life. it has been loved.

  29. paperback writeeeeeer. I like paperbacks because it takes me so long to read them they end up looking like yesterdays crap combined with a bird’s nest. They become destroyed. Actually that’s why I don’t like them. I take it all back!

  31. its a kind of book I think….. maybe the kind of book i’d think the producer of such didn’t have the budget to make it a hard cover.. I think the best writers are those who don’t wait for a fancy book and just want people to read about what they have on there mind

  32. “Basically”, Jillian explained to Tara, “he’s a paperback. Spineless, thrilling, loanable to girlfriends & fun to gossip about. She sighed. “In the end, I’ll casually drop him off on the bleacher where I found him.” Tara tugged on her volleyball uniform, feeling a tiny pang for the boy. Jillian was team captain of cool, not just JV volleyball.

  33. I’m reading a paperback book right now. It’s a Stephen King book in the Dark Tower series. I read the first four books in the series years ago, but I’m finally reading the fifth book. Just two more books after this one, and I’m done.

  34. Historically people have read books in paperback format. Today, the books are better read on electronic devices, such as the kindle or iPhone (or Palm back in the day!). To carry around a bunch of books while traveling is painful – it`s much easier to disregard this content distribution method.

  35. A paperback novel is just waiting to be read. There it lies, enticing with its colourful, glossy cover, beckoning with its gleaming white pages all aflutter in the breeze. And if it’s a Mills & Boon novel, nothing better.

  37. she held the paperback novel open in her hands, its spine creased and its cover tattered at the edges. she held it, but gazed out the window to her left, forlornly watching the trees and houses and yards blur together as the train rushed passed them.

  38. I love the smell of used bookstores: an essence that Barnes and Noble can’t capture. The one close to my house is a labyrinth of old, strange books. I get lost in there in the words of things long forgotten.

    bookworm
  39. Paperback novels. Lighter. Airplanes. Portable. Time spent. Beaten-up library books, having that feeling that dozens if not hundreds of other hands have turned those well-worn pages before you, and you’re sharing something intimate and special with strangers, but it’s not creepy at all…

    Rachel
  40. Paperback books are generally something I link with trashy smutty novels, but I know thats not always true. It simply refers to whether the words are protected by a soft or hard cover. I like many paperback books.
