  1. The pattern on the skyline was rusty and opalescent, and her hands shook as she traced the outlines of the clouds with her index finger, looking for the smoke rings and the trail of space between suspended water that the bomb had cut through like a sword cutting through butter. The air was getting hotter and she knew it was only a matter of time.

  8. Proliferate this ascending pattern. Whisk me away to the rings of Saturn. Drip drip drip like the kitchen sink. If only if only we had time to think! Don’t think, don’t look before you leap, jump in head first with your arms wide open with your heart wide open with your mind just open to me. I chased you across the country and you ended up chasing me. From Seattle to Key West, and we walked the whole way. We are living the dream. We’re in love, we are free. With my feet in the ocean, with my hoop around my hips, I think of the rings of Saturn and I think of you. I’ll see you again some day, probably in Peru, by a different sea and with a different view.

  17. The pattern of insensitivity and avarice in today’s youth is frightening. My uncle used to say “they’re a generation of viper’s” vaguely quoting some scripture from the bible. Meanwhile he was throwing away his abundance for the lesser, vanity. This is my Great-grand uncle actually who is 33 years old.Weird I know. He was raised will principals and he seemed very stalwart in his convictions of what manhood is.He’s in jail right now,I’d say for forsaking his ideals. The point I’m trying to make is you cannot entirely blame the youth for their behavior. All throughout the world society tells us to be “good” meanwhile government only participates in scenario that will benefit it and it’s state. This inherent schizophrenia is prevalent in today’s world. The youth is the future and our future is being cursed by the short-sighted hypocrisy of our “father’s”. There is even an inherent hypocrisy in the case of the founding father’s who were saturated with the fervor for individuality, freedom, independence, and justice while they built this country on the backs of slaves. The pattern, the code, is ambition. Ambition is the drive for More. There is the lesser more which is that of selfishness for lack of a better word. The wanting to increase without regard for surrounding environment and the More of wanting to increase everything including the environment. This is a simplistic view of the responsibility of every person in society that can either be shirked for the glory of transient things that fade upon their creation or the embossing of lasting impression that is molded from the pattern of the heart in its effort to reach and affect every part of the whole through the process pumping blood. Duality is almost inescapable in this world so again it is either the Life-force that is being pumped in every facet of your creation or to put it bluntly your behavior is vampiristic and parasitic.I for one welcome the white-blood cells and their seemingly murderous intent. We are affected by the past patterns of those before alas we can no longer make excuses. We must take accountability for our future in every way imaginable. We have a responsibility to create sustainability because we are able. We have seen the folly and wisdom of our elders. We must chose the latter, Wise Dominion.

  18. There was a pattern I couldn’t seem to break. The addictive behavior of spending what wasn’t mine must be some inherited disease. I didn’t like it and it made me itch like a dope fiend scratches his ant filled skin.

  23. The pattern of that blanket was enough to keep my mind busy, let alone pull my attention to the fabric. My wife, sitting there like the true busybody she was, engaged in that final pull of thread with another french knot down the side. She was ignoring me, no doubt; the fact that dinner wasn’t ready, the house bills had not been paid, and our kitten Darcy was out on the back porch moaning for a bowl of milk. Still, I couldn’t pull myself away from the blanket.

But dressing as a boy, behaving as a boy, living like a boy for nearly two years gave her a new appreciation for the things she once did as a girl, including sewing. She would trade nearly anything, it seemed, to feel like a young woman again, even if it meant pulling out the box of patterns, opening the needle tin and stitching on a dozen buttons.

  38. patterns, well I guess you get patterns on many items and physical things. They’re all around us in this world. But I think the more important patters are the patterns that we fall into in life. I was stuck in the pattern of my eating disorder. I think that why it’s hard to recover. Patterns shouldn’t be broken or they cease to be and I don’t want to cease to be.
