  1. I love bicycling all summer long. I wish I could unicycle. My mom wanted me to join the circus at college, but I refused. My bicycle is at home now, because my dad took it apart and took it home with him a few weeks ago. I won’t be able to bicycle when I go home, because there will be snow on the ground.

  8. Her feet pushed as fast as hard as they could, propelling the bike forward. It seemed to whine in protest, crawling up the steep hill with great effort. Her lungs screamed for air and legs ached to stop, but she knew if she did she would go flying backward down the miniature mountain. That was not a risk the five-year-old wanted to take.

  9. There is a certain sense of sentimentality in bicycles. Sunny days in the park, perhaps an ice cream cone if it gets too hot. You are reminded of carefree days spent with friends, when all you had to do was pedal through life.

  26. The pedals spun mightily under his tired feet as he sped through the dark, slick streets. Rain lashed his face, and the sting only made him pedal harder. The letter in his hand was soaked now, ink running down, but it didn’t matter. He knew it by heart.

  32. I can’t ride my bike anymore. The snow falls too fast, streets covered in white. Though who am I kidding? It’s been months. By the time she’s out there will only be a few more weeks…

  40. Pedal harder, faster… but what about the downhills? I always hit the brakes and spin off of small pebbles and out of control. Like the time when we were night-biking and I was hugging the inside of the downhill curve and my tire caught the edge and suddenly I was sliding sideways across the pavement on my cheek.
