a penny saved is a penny earned, a stern and subtle saying that sums up a mindset all American’s should share these days. No matter how small it becomes with inflation a penny is our base currency and should always be valued and respected

A penny equals one. When I was little I used to play with pennies. I used to think if I had a lot I would be rich. Little did I know how many pennies I would actually need. Now that I am older I am thinking I will need a more that just a few pennies to survive.

It drops. Pick it up & it brings you luck. Pennies from heaven. Look after them & the pounds will look after themselves. There are so many hackneyed expressions regarding the humble penny, and yet, our society would not function without pennies and pounds it seems. They dominate what we do. We work hard to earn them, try our best to save them, and yet, they slip through our fingers like water at times.
They are both precious and cursed to me. I strive for a better life, but I so hate that I am ruled by them. One needs an awful lot of pennies to buy a house, or even rent one, and a car to drive to the place of work where we earn them. I can almost hear the penny dropping into the leaky bucket that is my bank account, as I sit here, not working…

Does luck truly reside in the finding of a penny? Or is it rather in the gathering of numerous pennies that one can find his or her luck? Money makes the world go around, or so they say. Yet I can’t help but wish…

Penny in you eye! Go for a penny, spend a penny, take a penny leave a penny. I am fond of a penny although the 20p UK coin I prefer more.
Penny want a cracker? Ha, I know it’s polly but who cares? You? Aaaah shucks.
Penny for your thoughts?

I used to be the sort of person who always collected old pennies and looked at the dates to see if there were any valuable ones. These days the coins change design so much it is very difficult to keep up.

money, I need lots of it. It’s addictive. Those pennies bring so much happiness and pain! I need lots of pennies! I wonder who decided to make them out copper?
Wouldn’t blue or green pennies be much more fun?

The penny dropped. Not just dropped, but rumbled all the way down the street. I chased after it – both in body and in mind. Why hadn’t I thought of that before? Why hadn’t it sunk in? Why hadn’t I listened? Damned penny! Such an invaluable jewel in these circumstances. Surely – would save a life?

I caught a penny once, it fell from the sky or a roof or a bird or something. I never told anyone about it and I had forgotten about it until now. I really do believe that pennies are lucky.

I hate pennies. They’re worthless by themselves. However, if a person can get a shit load of pennies, he or she can have at least a few dollars. I like dollars better though. Not only do dollars have more monetary value, but they are easier to transfer. Pennies jingle and roll around. How is a person suppose to carry a bunch of pennies around?
Jamie
the new penny shone brightly on the counter it was so new and pretty. Money!

I always pick up pennies… will never step over one … they bring good luck … don’t waste the luck of a dropped penny

What’s there in a penny when you don’t have any? It’s more than you think, when you don’t think pink. But green is the word to make spin the world. Or is it indeed? You know when in need.

I always pick up pennies. It’s something I once heard: free money. Problem is I never spend my pennies. I pile them up in a jar at home and they just sit there until my wife goes into a coin-rolling frenzy.

I wish I had a golden penny that you could buy whatever you wanted with it, wouldn’t that be great.

I picked up a penny the other day and I thought to myself, hmm, what can I do with this?
I took the penny to the grocery store, which I was heading for anyhow, and walked over to the vending area with all the gum and sticker and plastic crap spewing machines, thinking how nice it would be to have a piece of gum to chew on while I walked through the store.
What I saw shocked me — there was NOTHING I could buy for my shiny new penny (Okay, the beat up, dingy old penny I found lying on the ground, not even heads up for good luck). My mood was going sour.
I thought back to my youth when a penny would have purchased not 1, but 3 pieces of gum! That’s right! I would stick my hard earned (or more often than not, greatly begged for) penny into the slot and out would come 3 pieces of gum. God, I got old somehow.

a little penny on the road lost by a little girl who had no money and hoped to keep it for her dying mother but couldn’t hold on to it in spite of her attempts to do so as her hands were too cold and in the night of new year’s eve she died like Andersen wrote, but this time she didn’t even have matches to keep her warm this one last time

Penny picked up the dime her grandmother left her and headed upstairs. She knew she’d seen it somewhere: The coin with the misprinted icon. Suddenly picking it up from a plethora of junk during her move to New York unexpectedly brought back countless memories of her childhood in New Jersey.

One, two, three pennies clicked on the counter. I want those, a sticky finger pointed out. They’re sweet and glossy, puckering where the summer heat has melted them onto the plastic. Sweet sweets, delicious. Ready to be s

I took a penny from my mum, and gave it to the ice-cream man. “Toppings?”, he asked in a surprised tone. “No, tips!”, I replied. And today, I made an old man smile. It reminded me of simpler times.

Penny was the girl; She was the one on the sad slow swingset, singing a tuneless melody for my ears to hear.
Schoolbag slung on my back, walking home, I listened to her sighs and walked right on by the girl called Penny.

A small round piece of copper-colored currency that makes us shrug. Like Schrodinger’s cat, it is both worthless and priceless at the same moment, because it buys almost nothing, yet it is money. Money, THAT METALLIC GOD that rules, tugs at our pockets and makes us plod through countless unsatisfying acts. The penny is just the lowest thug in the chain of command.
