  2. i love to cook. i’m the kind of cook who if i have all the ingredients and tools and the recipe, i can follow the recipe and it comes out perfect. it’s easy. but i can’t just make up stuff of the top of my head, or even really remember recipes that well. it has to be in front of me. but if i have it in front of me, i can be an amazing cook.

  3. I was recently thinking about people who collect recipes. As I try to recall what I was thinking about these people, I find myself failing. I guess it’s just that I don’t see a point in collecting them when you could make one yourself. But I guess that applies to many things in life.

  4. Recipes – for those of us not smart enough to realize the burning smell is supper. Times, ingredients, and how-to to minimize mistakes, and make the most of ingredients. Snickerdoodles, ftw.

  5. I have a box of recipes in the attic. I don’t look at it very much. I just get reminded of my mother. All those times we spent in the kitchen discussing each one, getting all excited and all the smells, even the drips on each recipe card get to me. I have a heavy heart looking through those things. And my food would just turn salty from the tears.

  7. I love baking! It’s what I do when I’m bored at home. I really don’t get why people say they can’t cook, all you need are recipes. Follow them, most of them tell you what to do down to the last drop! There could be millions of chiefs out there just waiting to be discovered by themselves! Just buy a cookbook!

  8. formulas come to my mind here. for too long I’ve realized that I’ve lived by formulas, trying to perfect the circumstances of my life. and yet, that life is anything but perfection, nor is there anything of much tastefulness. so i’ve done away with recipes for most circumstances. but somewhere there is still that book that i refer to whenever I’m craving for something predictable and controlled.

  9. I love making chocolate chip cookies, but one time when my friend was helping me (aka eating all of the left over spaghetti) he decided to tickle the crap out of me. I’m so ticklish that I scream and fall to the floor pretty much every time. Well, he made me forget to add a cup of flour. the cookies turned out completely flat. and completely amazing.

  10. Recipes are for people who can’t think out of the box. Or who like to do things that are perfect. I can’t decide. Sometimes, you just need to reach into the cupboard of life and grab whatever fits in your hand. Throw it in a pot, mix it up, add some heat, and enjoy the results.

  11. A recipe for disaster.

    One teaspoon of anger.
    A pinch of impatience.
    One tablespoon of pretentious pride.

    Five tonnes of obsession.

  12. I don’t remember my mother ever cooking from a recipe so I am always making them up as I go along and wondering how hey came to be written anywhere in the first place when they are like human signatures that spring from inkwells and pens and make themselves important as ink.

  13. Family recipes. They are the essence of the family. Everyone always gathers around the Kitchen to whip up grandma’s and mom’s best recipes. It is a family activity shared among everyone that will live on for generations.

  14. Recipes are not easy. I can’t do them. What I create always comes out wrong. Such like a human being. Take something so simple and complicate it.

  15. I’m an industrial spy. I steal recipes. I know this isn’t like dealing with the CIA, MI6, or anyone “elite”, but sometimes my work can be just as messy. And I’m not talking Willy Wonka, “Whoops, some fat Aryan kid fell in my chocolate river” kind of “messy.”

You see, one time I nearly cut off the ear of a Kebbler Elf. I need to show that little pointy-eared bitch I meant business. I told him I would take my fleshy souvenir to my “employers” if he didn’t fork over the secret for Grasshoppers and Pecan Sandies. He didn’t believe me at first, so I had to cut him. Just enough so the blood would really start flowing, and of course I hummed a few bars to “Stuck in the Middle With You.” Apparently he’d seen the scene in Reservoir Dogs too and it wasn’t long before I had what I wanted and more.

“Soft Batch Chocolate Chip cookies? Oh, yes, I think I will take that too!”

Ok, I admit it. I was tempted to slice it off just for fun, but professionally it’s considered bad form to carry through with a threat once you’ve acquired what you came for. So I only pistol whipped him instead. However it wasn’t nearly as satisfying.

“Thanks. Worked all night on it.”
    “All night?”
    “Yeah, since I got home about… 6.”
    “You got home at 6?”
    “Yeah.”
    “6pm. Like, today.”
    “Yeah, why? What’s the-”
“I was here at six, you fucking liar.”

  18. this parade leads with ingredients that step in time to satisfy needs. to become that happy homemaker your mother never thought you could be. preheat that oven – it isn’t actually that horrible of a metaphor – i was hot and ready to go before i had the right ingredients to cook with. that, and the only things i knew how to make were cookies. i watch myself stuff face with the sweets from my past that are so unhealthy and bad for me… and while i am trying to eat right now, that void can’t be filled with broccoli.

… no matter how good it is for me.

  19. I keep all the recipes in a box, locked up above the sink, next to the liquor cabinet. Most of them are the same. For casseroles, dinners, cakes and cookies. But one is locked up especially. One is special.

  21. Sometimes when I try to cook, it doesn’t work out all that well. Scratch that, all the time I cook. It burns. A lot. And most of the time, it’s not my fault. It’s mainly just the fact that people talk to me. I get distracted by people. Especially if they’re hot.

  28. I tried to find it,
    Somewhere hidden within,

  38. My roommates love to cook. One of them has a box full of recipes. Living with them for three years I have learned how to cook some. All of the recipes we have used have been delicious. I can’t ever really recall a time when we ate bad food, except for that one time we used fake cheese on pizza. That didn’t turn out too well.
