  20. Looking down at the river from the top of my car gives me an intense dizzy feel, but the view of the vast, black sky is incredible from here. The length of our legs are as close as they can be to each other. The sky starts to change from black to orange. It is at this moment that I’m not sure if it’s sunrise or sunset; you hold onto me tightly and check your watch. “It’s 5:43. Happy Birthday.” You pull a cupcake from the bag you brought with. It’s the crudest thing I’ve ever seen, but then you stick a lit sparkler in the top and I can’t help but smile.

  39. Man, it seems, has always had an insatiable desire to make our mark everywhere. From scratching our name in rock to flying to the moon. This time, we have technology and have learned to bend the laws of gravity, but it’s all the same. We don’t want to be forgotten, so we put our flags on moons and leave footprints, in hopes, I suppose, that something will outlive us.
