It smelled of dead cats. but also of shepherd pie. I just think of my brother scrunching his nose as the meal is cooked at night, remembering the rosemary bush next to the first dead creature he saw. It’s forever burned in his brain, and now in mine. But it’s supposed to be beautiful, isn’t it? But never for us.
