  13. Often these items are well designed but their single purpose is to keep the neck warm. They have evolved into many shapes and styles but still remain a useful item of garment. Of course if we talk about my eating habits then I guess we could use the word to describe my behavior during dinner. The word scarf often conjures up images of England, Ireland and other locales where the weather suits this item. I wonder what it would be like to scarf down my food while wearing a scarf?? Now that I think about it, maybe the word for eating fast without regard to manners is spelled differently.

  23. I don’t wear scarves although I like to have them in my closet. Once in awhile I do remember to put one around my neck in the wintertime, and sometimes wonder why I don’t do it more. The answer is, of course, I’m afraid I’ll lose it. If it’s one I’ve had for a long time or one I especially like, then I’d hate to not have it around. I can hear you saying if you’re not going to wear it, why would you want to have it cluttering up your closet? Well, I don’t know the answer to that. I remember keeping a box with swaths of fabric I knew I’d probably never use, wouldn’t get rid it because who knew when the day might come–maybe a world catastrophe of some sort and there wouldn’t be any more fabric–and I’d have the fabric in store for keeping the world going for awhile. My scarf collection may be the collection that begins the world wearing scarves again if we lose them all somehow. It’s important to have something that reminds us of where we’ve been.
