I don’t wear scarves although I like to have them in my closet. Once in awhile I do remember to put one around my neck in the wintertime, and sometimes wonder why I don’t do it more. The answer is, of course, I’m afraid I’ll lose it. If it’s one I’ve had for a long time or one I especially like, then I’d hate to not have it around. I can hear you saying if you’re not going to wear it, why would you want to have it cluttering up your closet? Well, I don’t know the answer to that. I remember keeping a box with swaths of fabric I knew I’d probably never use, wouldn’t get rid it because who knew when the day might come–maybe a world catastrophe of some sort and there wouldn’t be any more fabric–and I’d have the fabric in store for keeping the world going for awhile. My scarf collection may be the collection that begins the world wearing scarves again if we lose them all somehow. It’s important to have something that reminds us of where we’ve been.
