Her only child, a son, lives a hundred miles away and only in the last year comes to visit her a couple of times a year. Previously, she had to drive to see him. Resilient and lovable.

    also a “slang” term that I heard a lot in the military. scarf was used to describe a person that eats his food very fast. Many would say “he scarfed down his food.”

She never understood why it meant so much to her Mother, Mitzi they called her and she called her scarf smutzy, “where’s my smutsy, she always asked . . .?” It always reminded her of her roots, the times her Mother spent running and running from the destruction of the war and her lost family in Romania. She wore it well like a tattered expression of lyalty to a forgotten time, a time she knew very little about but it reeminded her of her Mother so she held onto that scarf like it was a piece of her, and it was . . .

  33. i like the soft and fuzzy ones and they have to be long to cover my tummy because they are good to hide behind. i have a black silky short little scarf that my dad bought me when he went on a business trip when i was fairly young that i still have because it made me feel so grown up that he would bring me back a scarf like that. i have a whole bunch of scarves i never wear because they are too colorful and i feel like i stand out and i don’t like that. stores don’t have a lot of scarves anymore. there is a lady at work that always wears them, tied in little bows, and they are colorful, kind of like a rockabilly style, and she looks good. maybe i will give her my scarves.
