I knitted a scarf once, I was a 6 year old boy.It was 2 inches wide and 4 feet long when I finished. My older brother and father started calling me Pansy as my knitting improved.
Shorthly the scarf became a twisted ball of yarn.
You see, knitting is just a long slip knot.It was fun tearing it apart. To this day I kid my brother about that incident,

something you wear around your neck or on your head. When I was growing up girls/women wore them on our heads to keep warm or to keep the wind from blowing our hair. Not many women wear them today…maybe some older women.

A cold winter’s day, the wind blows the abandoned paper across the street as she walks to work. It was hard to collect herself this morning for the day’s toils and she will need an extra cup of coffee to face the day.

the scarf was tight around my neck, but the air was very cold outside. I was glad I had it.The fabric was made to look like a snow scene, but was faded and worn to strips.

I wear a scarf – head scarf – to hide my face, to see the world through a thin veil. No one can see my eyes through the scarf. My eyes tell all…as everyone’s eyes tell all.

Mom used to have the “flying scarf” when she owned the convertible. I remember begin so embarrassed as a teenager, seeing her pull into the parking lot in my high school. Now I realize that she never felt nearly as old as I thought she was.

The wind blew around her, pushing against her as she walked along the empty road home. She knew she was only another block away, but it was instinct that told her. The snow was so thick and the wind was so strong that she couldn’t even see past the end of her foot. She tightened her scarf around her face to keep the snow flakes, that felt more like glass shards, out of her eyes.

Chilly winds, frostbite, the tiny icicles that formed on pre-pubescent facial hair. All of these things are memories of home. Memories of harsh winters and warm scarves. I wish I could go back, but I’m glad that I left.
