when i woke up this morning, i had no idea , that he would call me, and that he would take me to central park to go skating while the sun was setting, we skated for hours

Lots of ways to skate. Just get out and do it. don’t worry about falling. Don’t worry about doing it “right”. Just do it. It’ll be fun. No matter your age. I rollerskated for the first time when I was 30 years old. The best night in a really long time. I wasn’t good at it at all, but it was a blast, none-tyhe-less.
SKATE just do it!
K
I put on the 2nd skate and looked past the driveway and decided today was the day. I’d given my immediate neighbors enough to laugh about it was time to take the show on the road.
Lynn
I saw the young man skate. He likes to skateboard around town. It saves him on gas money and he only goes small distances to get from place to place.
Johnny Wadd
Skate Palace. United Skates of America. such odd names really, now that I think about it… they were centers of Fundom then.
Meg
i have never liked to skate. i once got a pair of roller skates, put them on and then landed on my driveway. on my butt. with a broken tailbone. sitting down was impossibly hard for a long, long while after that.
sabrina
skate — it’s Katherine.
Joseph Leff
In my youth I would skate on public properties that turned out to be not so public. My friends and I would be chased away with the screams and brooms of the elderly.
Sean
people skate, or specifically skateboard, first off i automatically associate them with emos, who hang outside hungry jacks, and the strip near there, who mostly (from my knowledge of some of them), have no lives, smoke, pierce themselves in disgusting places and bludge all day there.
Lucy
I was trying to beat Linda Robinson at the park. She could always spin around in the air and land perfectly on her pretty little skates. I was 9 years old, she was six. BUT GODDAMN, she was an intimating six year old. She moved with the grace of a 14 year old olympian on those skates.
Zack
Till it hurts, Tricks and flips and air and soles, baggy jeans with torn knees. California, on the white streets, boombox pumping out punk and rock. Can i ollie 360 to varial kickflip?
Gary
i love to skate with my love, hand in hand. We’d go down the the rink and watch the little kids play and frolic as we used to do. Ah, what good time we had together. I love her so much.
joshua
I fell from the railing, my skateboard skidding off into a planter. The ground knocked the breath from my body, and I realized after a moment that my leg was definitely not meant to bend that way…
Corina
i fell in the parking lot of a school by my house in san diego. i had to be carried home by my lover roommate. the skateboard is hanging in my garage, untouched since.
Miss Lyn
I see the ice break as her skate slices through each layer. Her leg quivers and buckles. Crack! She is engulfed in the icy bitterness of her inevitable death. So young.
Amanda
ive never skated before but ive always wanted to learn and one time a bunch of little kids tried to teach me but failed epically because i fell all over the place and felt like a huge ass. all of my friends skateboard or rollerblade and i am just not doing any of those activities. im writing like im retarded.
kat
as i skate across the ice my stick in hand, i am ready. the puck is passed by my teammate and i go for it. i hot my stick to the little black circle as i slide across the floor, my skates scraping the ice. the puck goes in and we score, my first goal wins our team the championship game.
maggie
he skated through the sky, hoping that the day wouldn’t com e when he’d have to break free and skate into the heavens. nobody wanted that to happen because of what it meant
jhymel
i wish i could skate. i would love the feel of control and balance with mu whole body against the speed and gust of wind. i would like to feel the intensity and the fleeting feeling of flying.
mim
i skate on the street down the street. my bleeding knees don’t stop me at all. I want to get there. The skateboard under my feet is scratching against the old concrete. i’m surprised it hasn’t snapped under my weight yet. It is my transportation, gets me to the places I need to be alive. Where would I be without skate. The air on my face
lucy
i have always loved skating, actually in my youth i was a great skater, mostly roller skates i am confident that the skill lent itself to my confidence in other areas of my life as well. take skiing for example, i feel more confident because of the skills
carl
when I skate across the room, the room lifts and spins. My mind blows as the roof reveals the stars, dancing in the silent air.
Yukie James
I love to roller blade, but not to ice skate. Ice skating involves the most complex combination of movements I have ever failed to complete. Not only must you stop on your toe in order to break, potentially sending you careening forwards to your death, but you have to also look graceful and serene.
Francesca
OFF A BUILDING WITH CHEDDAR FROM YOUR EARS MAKING THE SOUNDS THAT DIAMONS IN THE SIDE OF A BARRACUDA WILL EAT OPEN A CAN OF LIFE IS FULL OF DIFFERENT MEANINGS AND IF YOU GET DRUNK TO FAST YOU’LL GET YOUR SHOES FILLED WITH DIRT FROM THE WATER IS DIRTY DONT DRINK It. when i was kid i used to use a skate board to escape reality. when i skated i soared like a bird and flew past the other people walking like i was something else, something non human. something more soulful and special, something more me…

WE skate around the things that matter. WE tell the truth about the simple things and lie about the the things that matter. Those are actually the things that matter.
Nicole
Ice skating with someone you’re in love with is like going through all relationship’s problems.
You fall and get back up, and no matter what, they’re always there to help you back up. They’re what make falling worth it in the end.
karen
skating is for dreamers. i skate in my dreams. she’s a dream when she skates. she skates in my dreams.
philemon
on and on he went, carving a path through the glimmering glasslike surface. he knew he couldn’t stop, and yet he pushed forward anyway. “will I crash? will it matter?”
EA Nanes
i had skates as a child. They gathered dust in my walk-in closet because my father couldn’t put the bottle down to show me how to laces up my skates. I sold those skates without ever putting them on. Thanks dad.

I like to skate. I live close to ottawa and I go skating on the canal there whenever I have the chance, although I have yet to go this year. I did go to a friend’s house to skate – they have a pond and it was frozen really well this year – it was really smooth.
Ilo
the was a skating rink in town and many years ago back in high school I went to a roller skating party there and they had black lights to make everything cool and grooy lookin. I got three girls to show me how their bras lit up all purplely looking. What a party.
Gary
I like to sjate. Not just iceskating, but skateboarinding as well. The motion, the grace, the freedom… Just amazing. SHOOP DA WOOP!!!
Brett Shuck
skate is a kind of fish. We’ll never know exactly how it differs from cod or even haddock, but we can be sure it’s awesome.

A skate board drifts down an empty street. Where is the rider? Perhaps nobody is left on Earth and the skate remains as a relic of a forgotten culture, or perhaps it is the skater who has abandoned his board…
Kevin
A thing we do to get away, we move, we move. Yet we don’t go anywhere far enough. We gain momentum like we can go fast enough to be somewhere different, get to a world not like our own. Like a place where things move by so fast would have to go by different rules than one where we were moving so slowly.
Michelle
park ice pond lots of people in brightly colored mufflers & ear muffs and skirts and hats and pants and scarfs. Boys helping their sweetheart balance on her new ice-skates – the first pair she’s ever owned. She skates unsteadily, falling, by accident, or otherwise, into his ready arms. they laugh – their breath freezes on the winter air. rosy cheeked and bright eyed, they skate away from me, laughing and in love. some small children race past me, with something in their arms – I’m not sure if it’s clothing or a small animal. a small child struggles to keep up with the older ones. Boys laugh and yell and dodge in and out of the other skaters, throwing snowballs at each other. the air is dancing with happiness.
