  8. I love digging in the soil. Its so cool how worms come out of the soil when it rains. Their little homes get flooded and the wind up on the pavement and end up being stepped on and run over by cars. It’s really sad. I find dead dried up worms everywhere the morning after rain storms. But oh well. That’s life right?

  11. Soil turning to mud when the water hits. First rain in a while, dead worms on the sidewalks. Water is their main composition, yet it’s the very thing that killed them. How could something that is apart of us make that fatal contradiction?

  13. My mother plants beautiful flowers in the spring, and the fall, all the time actually. And my favorite are the snap dragons. I’ve never actually managed to make them snap, but they are so cool looking that I just love them. I also like the day lilies.

  15. He dug his nails into the ground, soft earth coming up between his fingers. It escaped under his finger tips, leaving them soiled for ages he was sure, but it didn’t matter. The small earth worms poked their heads out of the ground blindly, not sure what they were doing or where they were going or why they were being removed from their home so that a plant could take their place.

  17. i kind of wish there had been another word besides soil. i don’t like soil. it makes me think of bugs. i hate bugs. i get paranoid sometimes, or a lot of the time. like everywhere i turn, there’s something crawling on the wall or up my arm.

  18. it’s brown, well more of a brownish black, really. it is in the ground and it is pretty much the basis of all plant life, which obviously we as animals can’t live without because plants give us oxygen!

  20. dirt, its is how plants grow. Its where they get their nutrients. Without soil there would be no oxygen because the plants couldnt grow, therefore there would be no life. Soil also makes your hands dirty, it has bugs and nasty germs, not something you would want to eat but still a very important factor to our life as humans.

  38. soil is one of those things that you cant do without, you need it for nearly everything, farming, building, digging, mud-pies… if we lived on a planet with just rock then we would not have evolved into the sophisticated beings we are! nothing we now know would havebeen possible if we werent able to farm.

  40. I walked outside into the warm summer heat. I looked down at teh soil my mother had just laid out yesturday so she could plant her lillies. I never helped her with spreading the soil but I always thought of her as a giving woman.
