  18. it was very warm the day that Freckles finally kicked her little bucket. Twenty one years is a long life for a cat. But nevertheless, in spite of the fact that her demise was expected any day, that sulttry sombre day is one we’ll never forget.
It was difficult to sleep. Bedrooms on the second level, hot air rising, cold air falling, the airconditioning just did not cut it. In a wake/sleep state of mind I thought I heard an unusually long “Meow”. Freckles had become very vocal in old age, and we were getting used to new sounds emanating from her, but never just one long meow. I thought little of it in my state of near sleep, but the next morning, we didn’t hear the familiar urging meow of “get me my breakfast”. We put it our, expecting an imminent appearance. When she never showed, we started to search. Our sad discovery took more than an hour. That long meow I heard in the night was Freckles saying her last “Goodbye”.

  23. quiet, solitude. Serious like Greg and Joe. Kind of reminds me of sombrero. Wonder if the hat-word originated from sombre and, if so, why. Wonder what the origins of the word are…french? spanish? I don’t use this word often.

Maider stood, his eyes sad, his nose running.

    “Long live the King.”
