Spongebob Squarepants might as well be my hero. He’s so kind-spirited, fun-loving, and good to everyone. He really appreciates life and lives it to the fullest. He might be an annoyance to some, but he only has good intentions. If I only had a fraction of him optimism, I could live on laughs forever.

He lapped it up, taking in every word she said. She had no intention of making him smile. She turned her back, grinning at some boy she had only just met, leaving him to sit in the corner and watch her flirt.

Anabel took the soft sponge out of the bowl and dabbed the paper lightly, allowing the clear colored paint to soak into it’s porous material as the colors remained on the white sheet in front of her.
Lap it up. Suck. Gather. Take and take and take. Do not give. Do not offer. Do not budge. One day, you will be full and you will overflow. But today is not that day. Today, and for days to come, you are a sponge, a thundering river in the making.

I can hear the droplets of water dripping off the sponge and falling to their miniature demise in the smooth cool basin of the kitchen sink. I can hear the steady tick of each drop leaping into the unknown all the way from my bedroom. I know it then that I must be feeling lonelier than I ever have before.
Soap bubbles spilled over the side of the kitchen counter as Mary furiously scrubbed away at the stubborn dried up food that stuck to the plate. Her fingers were starting to get pruny and her best friend when it came to cleaning the dishes was beginning to wear out. She could feel the sponge in her hand begin to loosen itself up as it started coming closer to the end of it’s life.
Some people are not aware of the fact that the sponge is an animal. More correctly, a community of tiny animals living together, filtering tiny food particles out of the water.

With no personality of her own, she had no choice but to soak up the aspects of those around her. Other people’s words dripped from her tongue when she opened her mouth, their thoughts finding a new platform within her.

I use a sponge in my kitchen to clean my dishes and my counters. Sometimes I even use a sponge to clean the floors when they get really dirty. It isn’t often that I cannot find a use for a sponge. Every one can use a sponge. Even on your car. Cars get dirty too.

Sponge
Like a sponge
I absorb the world around me
Information
Sights
And sounds
Like a sponge
I clean up
The messes of others
I am used
Rung out
And reused
Like a sponge
I am durable
Yet delicate
Prone to damage
When run across the rough
Surfaces of life
Yet enjoy the soft touch
Of your hands
And when you clean me
I am new
Like a sponge
Ready to be used
