  1. She was standing there, feeling naked, and criticized. The microphone waited for attention, the people in the audience watching it with curiosity. Was she nervous? Not really. She was feeling judged. What would they think of her voice? The lights dimmed an she swallowed. Her time was up, and she was under the spotlight.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I am pleased to welcome you to Jeffery’s One-Man Comedy Tour! I hope you have a nice night and enjoy the show and at the end go ahead and buy some of the shirts and CD’s.”

  7. don’t want to be in it. fuck that. it’s blinding and separates you from people that you should be closer to because people are too far away nowadays, not geographically but in the metaphorical sense we are separated by our gagets and money and shit.

  8. The light turned on as soon as I hit the stage. I had never felt so nervous in my life. Adrenaline coursed through my veins. I wanted to puke. But I was ready. I could do this. I could shine. Shine just like the spotlight pointed at my face.

She wasn’t afraid. She knew she could do this. She apparently hadn’t explained this fact to her fast beating heart though.

  12. It’s what everyone is yearning for, but the view from there is not worth it. From the spotlight, you will lose what is in front of you, and everyone will see your every facet. I’m telling you, don’t go there; work in the shadows.

  18. She was always in the spotlight. The one that everyone watched.

She craved attention like a hungry flower soaks up the sun after a week full of rain. And attention loved her.

But I was the one who did all the work. I made the phone calls. I filled out the forms.

And, when she left, I paid the price.
