  1. Oh, boy. What a good word to have today. There I was, walking/shuffling down the hallway, just waiting to get where I was going, when I nearly bumped into him. I was so distracted afterwards that it was only after I had left the school building that I realized I had one more class to go.
    Don’t worry, I made it to class on time. Not that it made a difference; I was still somewhere far away.

  16. I was startled at the dog at the top of the stairs. Its eyes glowed strangely in the morning light and it slavered slightly as if catching my scent and upon smelling it, hungered. It loped forward, down the steps toward me. I moved hesitantly back, but a friendly wag of the tail convinced me that perhaps the dogs intentions were not foul. I thought it was rather unusual and how heavy it must me for him to carry such a huge rate. it startled me at first, but I understand.

  40. i was startled to find myself on this site where i was expected to react very quickly, and to write, neithre of which are things I’m great at. I wish I was. Great at those things, and also more often startled. The trouble with being able to have a nice life is it often isn’t surprising enough, and the trouble with getting older (one of them) is that the world becomes less and less startling and more predictable.
