  1. So hard to get there. To stay there for even a second. When I was leaving the theater tonight I walked passed a junkie leaning against a metal fence. And he was .. Still. Maybe a little to still. Next thing I new bike cops ride up. I walk pass and I look into his face.. Up towards the sky.. And he looked like he was being reeaaal still. I mean that final bit of stillness that we never make it to till that final attempt. Mouth open, eyes at half mast. They flashed a light in his face. Nothing. Wow my first time seeing a dead person. … Oh what? Never mind he moved…. Good.

  2. what is it about the stillness that leaves such an eerie feeling? doesn’t it mean calm and serenity? are we so accustomed to the hustle and bustle of the city that anything natural, such as the tranquility of life, seems so…unnatural? we’ve grown backward! what is this?!

  3. I both long for and detest stillness.
    It is a state in which I am trapped;
It is an ideal I perpetually pursue.
    It is peace of mind,
    it is madness.

  5. there is no quiet, just a frozen type
of waiting, and everyone is still
to a point of chaos, and your scream

  6. The brushes
    enter your ear
like warm sand on your face.
    Her voice like sunshine
    on a cold winter day.
    The tangy guitar
    bittersweet-ly stings your ear
like biting into a fierce orange.
    The words enter your mind
like a wave washing away the sand
    you stand on.
    And you take a breath,
    and sit for a while.
    Letting the breeze,
    the sound,
    pass through you
    like water
    around your ankles.
    Smooth and warm
    and comforting.

  7. stillness means no life because it has no movement but at sometime if the person wants stillness in life it means calm….life is all about moving from one process to another.

  8. Stillness cannot exist. Stillness is created by the mindful act of becoming something other than yourself; for you, you are nothing but a sloshing mess of emotions and blood-red instabilities. To be still you can neither be dead nor alive, but somewhere in between. Stillness is not something you gravitate towards naturally, there is no state of nature in stillness, for stillness in nature is the most moving in nature; it’s unnatural because it is a bold contradiction. Stillness moves simply because it cannot move, yet it must. Stillness, like perfection, is to be strived for with the knowledge that it will never be harnessed, but with the daring to grasp for it anyway.

  9. neurotic, closed in.
    stuck, tired, appearing dead,
what is still, if our minds keep on

  11. If she didn’t see some movement soon, she was going to shoot something. This stillness was eerie. Everything looked so dead when still. She preferred a more vivacious environment, and if she had to liven things up by force? Well, she wouldn’t cry.

  15. I thought my headache had gone away, but it seems to be the theme of days past. I cant grow unless this stillness evaporates my my body. The whole word becomes stagnant and I cannot breathe. The methodically rhythms of the clocks booms transpiring time and all goodness thereof. There is no now, only that of nothingness and foreverness in the same moment

  16. I slip under the grass
    like a child’s blanket.
    The sky, crystal blue
    above me,
reminds me of my future self,
    staring endlessly
    into a vast, beautiful
    emptiness
    that is my life.
    The potential
    to reach some infinite
    wisdom,
    some vastness
    as wide as the sky
    as I lay there
    contemplating
    my existence,
    sleeping
    underneath comfort.

  17. when I sit still, I ponder. I’m left alone with my thoughts, and the whole world stays still, just as I do. Still objects can often be the most beautiful ones as well. I am still right now. Well, not right now because I’m typing this crazy thing. Looks like time has run out!

  18. A stillness in the soft fabric of her dress was where she kept her sight. Low and not interfering with the men she feared. She did as she told and she cared as if they were her family. Now was she mother in the 50s or a waitress even now?

    Eric Harrell
  19. Stillness.

There was a quiet in the air, which didn’t symbolize tranquility, but rather an impending attack. The boy shivered in the cool breeze as he huddled closer to the tree under which he sat. In all of the books that he had read, stillness had always been related to peace. In this long-forgotten area, under a tree which had only witnessed brutality, the stillness signified something more sinister.

  22. The stillness and quiet of the night makes me wish I knew you and had you in my arms. Breathing your hot humid breath across my shoulders to turn me on, feeling your body move with mine. We are in tune with another, we need to break this stillness of life and love and make a beautiful symphony of breath, bodies, and sounds. I won’t say I love you but I could.

  23. Dear, the stillness in your heart repeatedly calls out for me
“I’m not beating and it’s because of you,” it tells to me.
But what can I do to make it better, for what is inactive cannot be made active once again
The damage has been done to you and to many others but you will all be okay

  27. The stillness of the winter night was chilling. I could the silence in my bones. My teeth bouncing off one another, disturbing the silence again and later again. I’m stopped here in this moment, in this space. And yet I can only think of one thing. Those trees, those trees there and there and anywhere. They have taken such a beating. First they have to live with us, the humans, and secondly they have to go through winter, freezing. They are so frozen that their trunks are metals of their own.

  28. Stillness is the restraint behind everything. Stillness is a blessing. Stillness is a curse. Stillness is a blessing after a long day, but when stuck in the classroom it can be a curse. Life needs color and movement, but sometimes you just need things to slow down and stop. Still.

  29. My breath fogged the air. If I hadn’t known any better, I would have thought that at this moment I was the only person for miles of unmarred snow.
Fortunately, I still had enough sense in me to know that I would never be alone, not really. Particularly not now.
I stood, quiet and attentive. Snow lazily drifted down, melting down the back of my neck. Ice water trickled down my spine. When my shoulders hunched in surprise from the sudden coldness the stillness finally erupted around me.

  30. stillness filled her mind. all she could think of was to not move, or else, they would find her, end her, and then they would make her suffer. so she took one deep breath, then a second one, then a third, and when silence filled the room, she knew it was safe to go out… or was it?

  31. The stillness of the lake was unbroken. A crane dipped down and splashed its bill into the algae-crystalled water. An old couple, sitting on the gazebo, were looking away from each other. The old woman had a Dunkin Donuts bag in her lap. She was feeding the Canadian geese that swam luxuriously below her. The old man was sitting, his hands in his pockets, doing nothing.

The girl paced back and forth with her trusty weapon, circling the house warily in search of her target.

    “FREEZE!”
The girl halted, embracing the stillness of her mind and glaring at the predator as he squirted her with the water gun.
“That was cheating!!!” she argued, placing her hands on her hips as the little boy sprinted away. “MOOOOM!!!”

  38. I cannot decide.
The light streams into this apartment. All nice and warm.
    But I cannot decide.

The leasing agent seems undecided as well.

The wall seems undecided as well.

  40. it is what you do when you are in complete contemplation about something either good or bad it doesn’t matter, it is what happens so rarely in nature when the perfect moment of no wind blowing and all the animals are taking a break. It catches your attention because it is so rare and beautiful. It only comes sometimes not even when your sleeping. Quiet. it is beautiful.
