They are suspended there not by their own choosing, but by us, the lowly, the descended. Reaching up begins but will not end. It begins with them reaching down.

  17. Suspend. Sometimes one wishes everything to be suspended, as if all existence where on hold. And sometimes it happens, you feel the sun bathing you in its heat, the wind caressing your face and then, just when you notice it, when you start enjoying it…everything’s set in motion again. Time’s up and then all moves again as a machine of perpetual motion.

  19. suspension – to be held in the air, to be unable to move, to be deprived from a certain area or activity. It can be a moment of amazement, of despair, or of punishment. Some wish to be suspended in a moment forever, some can’t wait for a suspension to end. Without the suspensions of technology, we would not have bridges.

    Emily

Pure horror, of meeting life in its fullest and most sophisticated plasticity; she could not even fathom whether everyone she met there was wearing a mask of indifference or not.

    So she suspended herself:

    and died, falling.

  27. There’s one word that makes us all cringe. That makes us cry. That makes us happy. That fills us with disbelief. There’s one word that means everything to one person. One word on behalf of everything that means anything to us. That one weird is different for everyone.

  28. Suspension of belief is an interesting thing. I was thinking today about books. All plots are wildly improbable, but a good writer can make you forget that. So the classics are just as improbable as the dime store novels, but the writer is clearly a master of the suspension of disbelief. They can make any impossibility seem real. If Tolkien suddenly turned Gandalf into a pink bunny rabbit, I wouldn’t even blink.

  39. every time I think of the word suspend, I think of jell-o. I’m a Minnesotan girl, and so it’s quite natural for me to make the connection: you suspend shit in jello. it can be gummy candy or fruit or nuts or office supplies, but once you put it in there it is SUSPENDED. You can’t really eat it, since it’s a work of art more than anything else, as if you had cooked a meal with polymer glue or something. also, it is often blue, which I believe is the least edible color for food.
