Old and new. Tables. Rows of them. They looked sad in a way. I don’t know how. Perhaps because they knew that sitting there was all they do. Then I realize that’s all I do. Sad, Indeed. I wish things were different, but obviously they’re not.
Mine is never clear. Computers, dinners, homework, drinks, chats, mail, work stuff. We’ve started using a card table to play games on. My husband thinks it will confuse our regular table into clearing itself.
Turning the tables on his opponent, Chevalier Maurice dropped his epee, threw down his gauntlet, and flung a cream pie into the face of the marauding clown.
big and small and I really like the ones that are old and you find the letters in them that people have left behind, I think I found a suicide note once or was it a confession, something like that. I felt rather strange and weird and excited all at the same time, I put it back where I found it in the draw in the table in the recycling center.

The table was very old. It was stained and had water stains all over it and was polished lighter in some areas from heavy use.
We mastered times tables in fourth grade. I remember being the best, feeling that spark of thrill when I got the answer right but no one else did. Back then I never understood the how of the questions; how you got from one number to next. Only that you did. It seemed to me that two numbers produced a third with no rhyme or reason. I understood later, but there are still many things to which I cannot provide a rhyme or reason.
i was a waitress this past summer and i learned a lot about people. there was the guy who came in every morning, large regular coffee + scone, but then there were the rude morning people who clearly just didn’t get that being an asshole wouldn’t make me work faster. Then theres the cute couple, the old lady, and the rest of the world, waiting to get coffee to go.

Tables are really good for holding things. Things like spoons and knives and plates, things like conversations and family ties and love and remembrance. And pizza, but hey. Pizza is love.
Turning tables – I suppose this phrase has its origins in gambling. I went to Las Vegas once, – saw people on slot machines before breakfast. It seems a strange alternative to cereal and toast to me.

Tables. What more needs to be said. They are pretty much THE foundation of our society. You put your feet up, you rest your coffee mug, even the sacred event known as poker night takes place on this glorious surface. What more needs to be said? God’s gift to man.

resting upon these femurs
these tibias and fibulas
with phalanges gripping
digging
through endless cotton fields
hoping to root themselves
don’t rest your elbows here.

The thick, brown table smelled musty, like someone had tripped and stumbled into an old attic where the dreams from years past spend the winters of their lives. Its veneer was cracked and broken, and one of its legs was missing.
I don’t like tables. NO they have always appeared in my nightmares and they taunted me with their silly legs. They think that they are better. But I know their secrets

Adam Jones
All tables serve a purpose. Even the ones intended for decoration eventually become covered with things no one really needs. There’s a table in the bathroom, in my bedroom, in the living room. They’re covered in boxes of tampons, a light, some books.

Tables are meant for placing our belongings on. They are simple structures made of four legs and a board for the top. They hold everything for us. They are sources of leftover papers and tickets and mail and books and anything else you would like.

They can be wooden…or plastic. You can put things on them…like cups, plates, napkins. You can have sex on them…that’d be fun. Watermelons make them sticky and gross. Chairs…they have chairs. And legs. Sometimes those legs have little felt pads on the bottoms to stop them from scratching your floor.
