  2. A thumbtack is a cruel, cruel office supply. While it can be used to secure memos and other important document to a surface, it can also serve as a painful, immature prank. So, beware, office dwellers, of the thumbtack.

  3. Pressed in with one finger, leaving an imprint. That’s like my relationship with Dan. He had me, right under his thumb and he left a great impression. No, not just an impression, but a great hole. And now, what am I? I’m damaged.

    The Grey Hatter
  4. These are sharp. I think of fingers being hurt, thumbnails being torn. They help to hold the things we love up. I do not like my fingers bleeding, the tug of skin toward a place it shouldnt go. There must be a better design. My fingers become raw. Posters are torn. Cannot hold a heavy frame. Many colors but only white will do. Under the fingernails. Eek. Nothing should go under there.

  5. There was a thumbtack who’s name was Joe. Once a boy named Michael came and sat on Joe, and it hurt heaps. So Michael went to A&E and he had to get Joe removed. Joe was then put in a bin.

  10. So sharp, but hey who knows why. What are they for anyway? They’ve been replaced, they’re outdated. But doesn’t that happen to everything. Does it happen to everyone too? Can you have a life long friend. I wish I felt like I could keep something for more than a couple minutes. I wish everything wasn’t disposable for me.

  11. Thumbtacks are rather curious things because of how they are shaped. I like them though because they help me stick things to a wall when I need things stuck. Though thumbtacks get me anger quite often because of how clumsy I am by stabbing myself in hand with one, by accident of course.

  14. To Alex, Great prose about posters and people taking on images without knowing the meaning and history of them.

To [ no-balls-to-even-write-an-alias], The point of an unusual topic as ‘thumbtack’ is to challenge writing ability. You don’t have any, so don’t use this site; or- here’s an idea- start your “own damn” site with more intelligent kind of words. If you know any that is. I doubt it. I wasn’t keen on “thumbtack” either, but I didn’t whine (not wine) about it.PLEASE stay in school. (and STUDY Earth’s sake.)

  20. I pierced my finger with the tack and a droplet of blood spilled. It reminded me of the old days. So much pain and hurt from that damned man, that damned incident. I hated myself, not as much as I hated him though. Goddamn all those scars for nothing…The thumbtack was where I had my clothes hanging, where he threw them, where my fate lied. Now I feed a baby..and curse the tack.

  27. there was a thumbtack in the wall of my new dorm room. It made me think of Susan and her really cute star shaped thumbtacks that she used to stick pictures to her bulletin board. I don’t have a bulletin board on my desk in my new dorm. I wish I did. Instead, I stick pictures and stuff on the wall with double-sided tape. Tara and I bought the tape to make our home-made Audrey Hepburn border. It’s pretty awesome.

    Hannah Hoyt
  28. I was sitting at a desk when I found a thumbtack. It sat on the desk like a fly looking at me… Into my soul. I knew it wanted to kill me. It wanted to pierce my skin. It had to die. I had to destroy it. Before it could destroy me.

  32. Thumbtack. I pressed it carefully into the sandpaper-textured bulletin board and stepped back. My artwork hung perfectly straight for all to see. Yellow, green, and blue. Would it mean something to them? i didn’t know.

  33. Thumbtacks really are quite useful in the proper setting. Corkboards are perfect for thumbtacks to stick notes or business cards on them. Other than that, though, they don’t really have much other use. It’s sad to have an accessory that only has one function.

    Charlie Rogers

  36. it happened quickly and it happened with precision. the act had been premeditated, whispered about in the hallways, but when Johnny sat the thumbtack in Miss Wilson’s chair, none of us were prepared for the feelings of satisfaction we would soon experience. She yelped forcefully, meaningfully, and though we were too young to understand the ways we affected her, the sounds still linger in our ear drums.

    katey jordan
  37. small and green. Holds up my stuff. Sticks in my foot. Push with my thumb. I prefer clear ones. Hate the flat tipped ones. Hang a picture, it says a thousand words. Tack on the thumb. boom.

    Kristina
  38. I don’t know much about thumbtacks, but I like them. They are cute but dangerous. I know some people like that. They’re adorable…and yet I’m quite scared of them. I really don’t like anything sharp. But really, who does? I know of no one, personally. There isn’t a whole lot one can say about thumbtacks!

    Tabitha
  39. thumbtacks are really nice. they hold the things i love up. pictures i’ve taken, pictures of my friends. sometimes they come in various colors, but personally, i love the plain silver ones. i remember i had a pack of them once, and i dropped them on the floor. i was forever stabbing my foot with them because of it. but they’re all gone now ( i think). thank god.

  40. Kaley walked drunkenly down the steps into the basement and shrieked as she felt something pierce the bottom of her left foot. She sat down and whimpered in pain as she grabbed her foot to examine it. There was a thumbtack in it. She tried to pry it out, then felt someone tap her shoulder. She looked up and saw a gorgeous pair of eyes looking down at her.
    “Are you okay?”
