  4. Tomatos. I don’t really like them. But I remember when I was with my aunt because my mother was out of town. I was angry and sad and my aunt told me she had a surprise. She made me some sweet potato fries and with purple ketchup (You must remember when heinz came out with different colored ketchups, don’t you?) she wrote on my plate “Rachel, I love you.”
    I stopped crying.
Those were the best sweet potato fries I’ve ever had.

  11. the tomato sat atop the counter, polished red skin gleaming in the overhead light. beside it lay a stainless steel knife, freshly washed and ready to cut into that luscious red flesh. a hand plucks the knife from where it lays, raises it, and brings it down– the tomato is split cleanly into two.

  12. I used to think that tomoatoes were evil, though i always enjoyed tomato sauce and tomato soup. Now that i’m a grown up, i’m not so convinced of their affiliations with beelzebub, but they’re still not my favourite of fruits. they’re good with pasta, and in the odd sandwich, but i’d tend to buy a sandwich with them in it rather than buy a tomoato to put in a sandwich

  18. I grow tomatoes in the summer – little sweet orange tomatoes and big fat beefsteak tomatoes. I grow so many I don’t mind sharing a few with the slugs and moles and other critters who come by for a snack. Now, we have jars and jars of tomato sauce in the freezer (no slugs) and enjoy it all year long.

  26. Tomatoes are disgusting. My mother and I agree on that fact. My sister loves them. Like my dad and his deceased sister. I think about that when she pops that cherry tomato in her mouth. one bite. Dead, like my aunt. I’m sure she didn’t really like tomato sandwhiches. Just mayonayse and that tomato. She was just hungry. Like me.
