    “A treaty.” She responds, grinning impishly.
    The eyebrow stays in place. “Oh?”
    “Yep.” She grins. “I can’t have you stealing the left side of the bed every night.”
    “But the left IS my side.”
    She snorts. “It was until we started living together.”
    “So you’re prepared to make a treaty for your preferred sleeping position?”
    “Mm.” Comes her response. “Only I’m not quite sure what to offer you in return.”
    This time he snorts.
    “What?”
    “It’s just…” He pauses, searching for the words. “You really think waking up to you every morning isn’t enough?”

  6. When we think of treaties, we often think about peace and compromise. However, in many cases, we forget the amount of loss embedded within a treaty. The Treaty of Versailles, for example, had extreme consequences for the Germans. Peace doesn’t always mean happiness.

The Geneva Convention- this event was supposed to go down in history, however if any one person with an ordinary job were to stand in the room with those men at that moment, they would’ve felt anything but humbled; with one diplomat stealing the fancy ballpoint pen and another one thinking about an escort he’d left sullen and angry in a hurry.

  23. I’m not really sure what a treaty is. I think it has something to do with an agreement that two or more parties come to terms with. The first thing that comes to mind is indians and their head feathers, also, candy.

  25. My friends and I formed a peace treaty. We three swore to never fight again. We were 8 years old back then, after we all had a huge fight over a bag of goldfish. Little did we know that the next day brought a bag of pretzels and several more peace treaty re-do’s. I miss being a kid.

  27. an agreement is an agreement, there’s nothing changing that. i mean that’s what you think at first. when a promise has been made to you it fills you with joy and it’s great. but then that promise – that treaty – is broken, and there’s not enough words in the world to describe the hurt that goes with that.

  29. Treaty reminds me of the Magna Carta. In history we studied treaties we made back then. or you could give a dog a treaty?? idk haha

  30. we made a pact and that was that. we shook hands on an agreement, and nothing could change that. now we just had to do what we began. we just had to continue because those were the rules, there’s no such thing as just continuing with life. not if you’ve made an agreement that you can’t go back on, once you made that decision you have to stick with it and that’s the dilemma we faced.

  37. Treaties are freedom and slavery. Opposites. Too often we put meaning to the word “treaty” when it is just a tool like any other tool, weilded wisely and for good by wise and good people, or for evil and tyranny by evil and tryranical people, or, we must not forget, stupidly and with good intention by people who mean well and shouldn’t hold the position and power they have.

    So, the people I was with, which category did they belong to? What side was I on? Funny how WE are defined and made by the people we are with.

  40. The only thing that comes to mind is high school. History class, to be exact. This word brings back flashbacks of colonial garb, and Mr. Rohrabacher. I actually remember dozing off in one of his lessons, hearing the word treaty and imagining a soldier eating a Rice Krispy treat. Oh boy, now I am hungry…
