  1. typewriter. thats kind of a hard one…I mean…what does a typewriter mean, anyway? its a word processor, yes, but it also has cultural significance. a typewriter brings back feelings of nostalgia for millions, but my generation is utterly lost to the magic that it might hold. anywho, times almost up. capitalization fail! aha.

  2. My mother learnt to use a typewriter years ago. They are barely used these days, people use keyboards instead. they are arranged in the QWERTY format with metal circle keys. They use paper. They are heavy. I don’t use a type writer

  3. click click click tring as the writer returns to the start of the line. The words flow fast timed by the taps on the keyboard, will he finish in time…

  5. The fire is darkening in the west; the sun sets just as it always does, unaware of everything. We are merely rivers flowing throughout an ecosystem of destructive creatures; we are alone in the world. Our eyes are alight with rage; we’re going to kill you, and there will be no traces left.

  6. Sam had never seen a typewrite befiore. He was a child of the computer age. The keyboard was familiar, but the ribbon was a puzzle to him. He glanced over at the rotary dial ‘phone he had found on his grandfather’s desk and wondered how that worked.

  8. She pounded on the typewriter with her nimble writers fingers, her lips chewing into her bottom lip as if it were a raw piece of meat. All around her the room is silent, dark; she had been holed away for centuries now, losing track of time and people. Her bright eyes follow the letters as they slam onto the paper, her heart beats wildly in her chest – this is what she lives for.

  12. Typewriter again???? okay, then. I am typing on a keyboard, not some old fashioned typewriter, though typewriters are pretty cool, but what if you make a mistake. Wait-there isn’t a backspace button, right?

  15. If only the world still was of what it used to be. Chivalry would not be dead and true beauty came not from what is shown in black in white, but rather what a lady radiated. However, if you messed up with a typewriter, there was no way to fix it. Show’s the real essence of life.

  16. Hmmm. I have an old Underwood typewriter from the 1930’s or 40’s, although it just sits in my desk collecting dust. Laptop is the only way to go for me these days–it’s just too easy to put down thoughts.

  19. My fingers clack and click, noisy as hell on the keys of my old typewriter. I flinch every time I punch in a letter. It can’t be helped but, I wish I had some other way to write this. This was the best gift that my grandmother has given me.

  23. I wonder how our life would have been different if we still used typewriters. i’d be writing on one right now in fact i’ll bet there’d be no games about having 60 seconds to write about one word if we only had typewriters. i’ve already backspaced at least 10 times this sentence, i couldnt do that if i had a typewriter. people had to be a lot more precise back in teh day. they had to plan out what they were going to say before hand, and if they changed their mind, they had to rewrite the whole thing, which would probably prompt a lot more changing of their mind. They still had teh concept of rough drafts, thats probably where that concept came from in fact. you would handwrite everything, get it perfect, so that when you went to type it, you could type it once exactly how you wanted it to be. i’m not really sure if thats a better or worse method than the usual open a word document and start writing from scratch.

  24. She pounded the keys of the old, mechanical typewriter; the little hammers slamming into the paper with the force of her strong, bony fingers. Death was approaching and she had to finish her novel before it was too late. But the senile woman didn’t realize the ink was long dry on the ribbon and her words were only impressions on paper.

  25. em… typewriters…well lets see. im 21 and i’ve never used one. the are now obselete and like anything else will surely become thought of as a nostalgic item and an antique. They might be used in grammar to represent someone who doesn’t move with the times and maybe a bit stuck in their ways. i’ve seen old typewriters used as collector’s items which is lovely because they are a kind of tool for expression, an instrument for creating art.

  26. It’s a box, an angry tutting box. Metal claws and square language. Round the roll the smooth contemptuous paper waits for the thoughts to fall. Old and rusty they take up space that could be used for mugs or books or biscuits.

  27. typewriters are fabulous. I have always loved them. The way the keys are heavy ans have such a satisfying click as you press them. the way they smell like ink and paper.
