  10. Vows. I don’t believe in them.
Why should I promise, holding myself accountable in my future to my past?
My future choices will be based on my future self. I believe I will make the best decision then, because I don’t know as much now.

(That was a quick minute, wasn’t it?)

  11. When two people take a vow, it’s a very odd thing. One wouldn’t think that vows are needed in the experience of bonding between two individuals; it all seems a little too legal, a little too cold, a little too signed-and-sealed for such a thing as love. However, I suppose it is nice when the vows are nice enough. How often, though, are vows kept?

    Brennan Holness
  12. The two held each other close, as they spoke the words softly. They were so happy, their eyes filled with tears. Their mothers cried, and their fathers joined in. The wedding was perfect. Erica and James were finally one. Together. Married. This was the moment everyone had waited for.
The vows ended with a short kiss, and then, the two went off to enter their new life.

    Baby K.
  13. Wedding vows. So beautiful- so fake. Fradulent beliefs. No one believes in weddings anymore. If the gays can’t get married- why can we? I think I’m sick of the debate. I think I’m sick of Christians. I think I’m just sick period.

    Danielle
  14. This is what a person says at their wedding to show their vast love and commitment to their partner. A vow is solemn and permanent. Anyone who makes it not so is going against God’s own word. Marriage is for live, divorce is an abomination.

  17. we take vows of all sorts in life; marriage vows, vows to be honest, vows to seek revenge. it’s a word of great intensity, one we seldom keep. the vows of being true to one person fade, it’s far easier to lie (even a little) and taking revenge takes second place to sitting on our asses and doing nothing more than thinking of what we would do.

    quin browne
  18. They had made their vows. It was something they could never break, although the things in their future might beg them to do so. But no, a vow was something to be kept and set in stone, only to be broken by “death do us part”.

  20. What are my vows?

To write something that’s worth saying, that people will want to read.
To get outside more and breathe pure air while we still can on this planet.
To have a body that I can be proud of for once in my life.
    To cry less.
    To love again.
To wake up one morning when I am old and decrepit and think, yes, I’m done, I’m ready to go.

Maybe my priorities are kind of out of whack? I should give more to charity or something. But… at least my vows are real.

    Joseph Harker
  21. And so there we stood, about to take our vows. A proud moment, memorization rushing through my mind. Then all of a sudden; I couldn’t breathe. I knew it wasn’t right. And I knew that what I was about to do wasn’t right. But even with all of those thoughts in my head, I still couldn’t help myself. I had to get out of there. And so I ran. I ran as far away as I could go without collapsing. I knew I would remember that day for the rest of my life, and yet I didn’t regret it. I couldn’t regret it, because I knew I could never go back.

  23. the vows given at marriage are stupid and pointless. no one really cares about them anyway. Hallmark would be proud. You love him? You vowed it so it must be true… I think not. You are a lying sack of shit. Look at your mother, she is so happy with tears in her eye. If only she knew you stole her garder belt and screwed the neighbor.

    Michelle Aspis

  28. Vows aren’t permanent. We make them with eternity in mind, and quickly find that we regret that, making exceptions, quickly breaking down the integrity of the vow. People change. Ideas change. Beliefs change. That’s why vows can never be permanent.

  32. I take vows to relieve myself of the pressures of modern day life. they might not be to the one I love but to myself, because at the end of the day if you don’t have personal vows how can you set your allegiance to another person.

  35. Many people have vows do do things or keep things I guess, it depends on the meaning of the word though. I haven’t honestly ever know exactly what it meant, but been able to assume it’s meaning all these years… People have wedding vows, vows to keep something going. We make vows to keep things going. To keep things going, we always try and keep things going, in life, when in fact everything is doomed to end as inevitably as it began.
