  1. I wondered who the real warden of the jail of my mind was. When had I become so bound by my obligations that I couldn’t even do what I wanted? When did the chains around my wrists become so tight that I began to bleed? When did the rope around my mouth tighten so much that I couldn’t speak? I always thought it was her, locking me away, her stopping me. But it never was. It was always me. Me, and my desperate attempts to keep her and the rest of the world afloat. Me, always using myself as a life jacket and plunging into the cold waters with the ones I love. I keep myself prisoner, locking myself away to avoid the harsh retributions of guilt and worry. I lock myself up with those punishments, I tie myself down, to hold them all up.
