The smell of my childhood is wrapped up in a blend of running shoe rubber, snow shavings wiped off of skates, dirty playground sand and cloying, rotten-flower incense on Sunday afternoons. Any of those scents can take me back to a time of innocence and unquestioning belief in things bigger than myself.

A shiver ran through Karen and she licked her lips, watching as the other woman peeled her coat off.
